NHL Trade Deadline: Teams That Would Be Fools to Sit Idly By

Richard LangfordJun 3, 2018

A chance at greatness can be just a trade away for the following teams. They need to seize this opportunity and cannot let the trade deadline pass without making a move.

With the Feb. 27 deadline quickly approaching things are about to get crazy. Deals will start happening in bunches. Here are the teams that must be involved.

Los Angeles Kings

The Kings made a bold move leading up to this year when GM Dean Lombardi pulled the trigger to acquire Mike Richards from the Philadelphia Flyers. This was an effort to add some punch to their lineup and help them get further than their first-round exits the previous two seasons.

This deal has not brought the scoring bunch they desired. In fact, at 124 goals no team has scored less. To rectify this they appear to be eyeing another trade.

Dennis Bernstein of the fourthperiod.com reports that the Kings are trying to pull of a deal that would net them some much-needed scoring punch.

The Kings can't hesitate to pull off this trade as they beef up their offense to go with their excellent defense.

New Jersey Devils

At 34-20, the Devils are second in the Atlantic Division and right in the thick of the playoff hunt. This team has a glaring weakness, though: It has no scoring bunch on its back end.

That is going to kill the Devils in the heightened intensity of the playoffs.

To help with this, Mike Mazzeo of ESPN reports they are in the mix for Wild defenseman Marek Zidlicky.

This would be a nice addition and help them make a much more complete team. They need to get this trade done.

Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks' defense is in shambles. If this problem is not addressed it will destroy them.

At 32-21, they have been able to handle this deficiency fairly well, and they are in a clear position to make the postseason. However, making it should not be enough for a team that is just two years removed from a title.

They need to add defense in a hurry. Eklund of Hockey Buzz is hearing buzz that Chicago is eyeing a deal that would help with this. He reports the Blackhawks are considering swapping Patrick Kane with Buffalo Sabres' Ryan Miller. This would be a nice start for Chicago.
