Justin Blackmon Combine: How WR Is Proving Dedication with NFL Workout

Gabe ZaldivarFeb 20, 2012

Justin Blackmon is dominating the NFL well before he is even drafted.

Normally you would stay clear of making such assumptions at least until the NFL combine takes place, but I am enamored with how Blackmon is handling the pre-draft process.

NBC Sports reports former Oklahoma State star receiver Justin Blackmon will indeed work out at the combine later this week, and much to the dismay of pundits and experts that believe there is no need for him to do so.

Blackmon continues to be at the top of draft boards and in the top five of most mock drafts, so he could only plummet in many people's eyes.

Albert Breer of NFL.com quotes Blackmon who issued that he will:

"

Do it all.

"

This includes the 40-yard dash, in which he is projected to finish between 4.4 and 4.5 seconds according to the report.

The big question on Blackmon is on his speed, and that is precisely where all the eyes will be when he takes to the field at Lucas Oil Stadium this week. I agree that it would have been far easier for him to ditch the workout, or at the very least, this particular exercise.

Blackmon will dominate all the other events. His size, frame and ability to separate have me confident that he will slay the power and quickness events. The Gauntlet should be his time to shine as well, but the 40-yard dash is where most think he should have just kept to the sidelines.

This is not what star receivers do. The NFL is littered with wideouts that have a lofty notion about themselves, and Blackmon has that swagger and proved it by taking on all comers this week at the combine.

Blackmon may throw up a less-than-desirable number in the 40-yard dash, but that should hardly hurt his stock. This is a player that can overpower most corners and creates tremendous separation in his routes.

He has hands that make any quarterback look like Aaron Rodgers, and he just showed that he has the mental makeup to become a superstar.

I want my receivers to bark loudly and demand that they are the best on the field. They shouldn't back down from any fight.

Blackmon just proved he is exactly the kind of player you take in the top of any draft. His skill and confidence make him a top-five pick, and that doesn't change after the combine this weekend.
