Tottenham Transfer Rumors: Leandro Damiao Confirms Spurs Interest

Frank WagnerFeb 20, 2012

Things just keep getting better at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham are in the midst of a fantastic season and title challenge with a side that is the most fun to watch in the Premier League and a manager who is currently the most sought after in Europe.

Additionally, it seems like every young, sought-after superstar in the world is attracted to Spurs.

First, it was Eden Hazard, the 21-year-old Belgian attacking midfielder at Lille saying that he would love to play at White Hart Lane.

Then, it was Bruno Uvini, the 20-year-old Brazilian defender from Sao Paulo (and who captained Brazil's U-20 team to the World Cup this past summer) signing a loan deal (with the option to make it permanent) for Tottenham.

Now, it is Leandro Damião.

Damião is a budding superstar for Brazilian club Internacional and the Brazilian national football team.

The 22-year-old striker has proven to have incredible skill (see the video) and already has four appearances and one goal for Brazil (where finding a spot is incredibly difficult).

Spurs have reportedly made a bid on Damião, a clear attempt to get ahead of their competition given that Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus, Malaga and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked to the striker.

Damião has made it clear that he may prefer the nouveau riche PSG to Spurs, but has made it clear that the Spurs are the first to make an offer.

On the French football television program Téléfoot, Damião said

"I am not aware of anything for an offer from Paris SG. I have had no contact with PSG or [sporting director] LeonardoFor now, I think about my club and the Copa Libertadores. In July, if a proposal comes, it will be discussed.

"All that I know is that Tottenham have made an offer."

This statement may be a ploy by Damião to get PSG to quicken their pace in their pursuit of the striker.

However, Tottenham have surely gotten the Brazilian's attention with such a quick bid.

Spurs will now sit back and hope that that saying about early birds holds.
