Will Gilbert Arenas Ever Be the Same?

brandon LamJan 5, 2009

In the 2006-07 season, Gilbert Arenas had his best season ever with the Washington Wizards. He was making big shots, hitting game-winners, and lighting up the NBA.

Arenas and the Wizards had the best record going into the All-Star game. Arenas went to the All-Star game, along with Caron Butler, and at the time head coach Eddie Jordan.

On April 1, in a game against the Milwaukee Bucks, Butler broke his hand. That was a big blow for the Wizards.

But two days later, Gerald Wallace ran into the Wizards best player. Arenas suffered a torn MCL and was forced to get surgery. Arenas and Butler had to watch the Wizards get swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs.

And that's where it all began.

The next season Arenas pushed his knee too hard and Jason Kidd gave him the advice, "you may want to go easy on your knee, because you might tear it up again."

That's what happened. Arenas had to get a second surgery and was going to miss two or three months.

The Wizards were able to hold the load while he was gone and had a good season, sending both Butler and Antawn Jamison to the All-Star game. Arenas returned and helped lead the Wizards into the playoffs, with a rematch against the same Cavaliers team that knocked them out of the playoffs two years in a row.

People have criticized Arenas and DeShawn Stevenson about talking trash and tugging on LeBron James' cape in the playoffs.

Arenas played on one leg during the whole series and was forced to sit out the final two games.

The following summer Arenas was a free agent, along with All-Star forward Antawn Jamison. Arenas said in a statement that if Jamison did not get resigned, he would not come back.

Jamison and Arenas were both resigned.

The Wizards paid Arenas $111 million for six seasons, but a couple of months later, Arenas was forced to have a third surgery, and has missed the first three months of the NBA season.

His Wizards are 7-25.

Whenever he comes back, will he be the same Arenas, or the player that said, "I'm not healthy, but I will give you everything that I have."

Only time will tell if he will be the same old "AGENT ZERO" of old.
