WWE Elimination Chamber 2012: Why CM Punk Will Keep the Championship

Giulio RomanoJun 7, 2018

Good...only a few hours remain until the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view 2012 edition.

The card is set, the chambers are full and the titles are at stake. So is John Cena's soul. Now that we've narrowed it down, it is time to get to the point and show everyone why WWE Champion CM Punk is going to retain his title tonight.

No need for a fancy intro. The fate of WrestleMania and the world as you know it hangs in the balance.

Alright, so it isn't so dramatic, but the Straightedge Superstar is not leaving Wisconsin without the gold.

Here's why.

Chris Jericho Versus CM Punk Is Locked in

1 of 4

This is way past the rumor point now. There is no speculating on what one of the main events of WrestleMania XXVIII will be. Chris Jericho and CM Punk will do battle, and it will have the richest prize in the game on the line: the WWE championship and the rightful claim of who is the "best in the world."

Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, R-Truth and The Miz are just thrown in there to distract us from what is really happening. There is a Twitter war between Y2J and the champion for heaven's sake, so it doesn't take a genius to figure where everything is headed.

Here is one particular tweet.

Everything is a joke to you isn't it wannabe? Well laugh it up fuzzball, your party ends tomorrow in the ...

The fans have demanded this, and WWE obliged. So everyone, cheer up; it will be intense.

The Championship Is Stable on CM Punk

How many times have there been transitional champions in WWE? Too many in recent years, and that completely devalues the titles they hold.

CM Punk is doing a fine job as champion, and that should not stop just yet. He doesn't need to be in chase mode for Mania, and it would be his first one going in with gold. Give him a break, will ya?

There have been many who doubted The Miz last year, and he managed to make it past April 2, so it should be widely assumed that Punk will meet the same fate. Doesn't he deserve it? Knocking Miz for not being a good performer is one thing, but what could be pinned on Punk?

Ratings? It's February, folks...it is bad everywhere.

The title stays with CM Punk because his second reign must be a meaningful one, and having another transitional champion is a very bad idea.

The Outcome Must Differ from Previous Years

Last year, The Miz didn't participate in the Elimination Chamber match because SuperCena needed to main event WrestleMania again, so they shoved Jerry Lawler in his way.

The years before that, the WWE championship changed hands everytime. Triple H won it, John Cena won it, Batista won it...see my point?

This year must be different. CM Punk must go in there, kick some butt, set up his feud with Chris Jericho officially and retain his title. As I mentioned before, his match at Mania seems locked in. I can hardly imagine Sheamus challenging any of the RAW roster this year with his Royal Rumble prize, so scrap that possibility immediately.

Elimination Chamber always makes me nervous, to be honest. I hate having transitional champions when the current one is on a roll, and should both champs come out on top tonight, then I would know FOR SURE their reigns would continue for another month and a half.

It will be a night of firsts. John Laurinaitis also said on WWE.com that he has a huge announcement to make. What the hell is he gonna do now?

The RAW Superstars Will Shine Tonight

4 of 4

Despite not having been pushed more, this show does have one or two things to look forward to tonight: a good Divas match and the Raw chamber match featuring the best the red brand has to offer. Look for things to be shaken up tonight as the road to WrestleMania XXVIII continues.

There are former champions in that chamber, but if the current one truly is the best as he claims, then there is no doubt he will come out the winner and head to Miami clutching the hideous "spinner" belt.

Maybe it's not for nothing CM Punk is champion and will win...he may rid us of that demonic incarnation the golden strap is modeling. How wonderful that would be.

It is not long before 8 p.m. The Elimination Chamber awaits. May the best man win.
