Klitschko vs Chisora Press Conference: Boxing Must Make Statement After Disaster

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

The melee and madness that came in the press conference following boxing's latest heavyweight title fight is yet another black eye for the sport, and they must lay down the law to ensure this never happens again.

The chaos started when former champ David Haye began endlessly running his mouth and demanding a fight with Chisora.

This sent the two into a verbal boxing match with insults flying like right hooks. If you haven't seen it, check out the video for yourself.

Boxing must go beyond simple monetary fines for this incident. This warrants suspensions for both Chisora and Haye. This was simply an ugly mess.

It resulted in Haye's manager getting a cut on the head, and Chisora taking great pains to make it clear he was threatening Haye's life. "I'm going to physically shoot him." That later evolved into, "I'm going to physically burn him."

Del Boy apparently felt the need to add physically in case anyone was confused that he might just do these things in his head.

The incident was so ugly that it led to the Munich police getting involved.

Dereck Chisora has been released without charge by Munich police. David Haye is still AWOL bit.ly/yt9H5T #haye #chisora

Sky Sports reported that the case was ordered to be closed, but that they still wanted to speak to Haye.

Here is where boxing needs to step in. And you have to believe they will. The question is how severe will the punishment be.

The WBC had just fined Chisora $50,000 for slapping Klitschko at the weigh-in. This press conference made the weigh-in look like a delightful tea party.

These guys need to face a serious suspension as boxing must exert some sort of semblance of control over the sport.
