David Haye and Dereck Chisora's Brawl Must Result in Ban from Boxing

Brian MaziqueJun 1, 2018

The Dereck Chisora and David Haye confrontation was a ridiculous, immature and disturbing scene.

All things considered, it should end both of their mediocre careers. This went beyond the normal and sometimes-scripted scuffles at weigh-ins and such—this was dangerous and in many instances criminal.

If you haven't seen it, here is the video:

Dereck Chisora was especially out of control, and I believe he may have gone over the edge of sanity at some point prior to Saturday's events. This may have been unknown to David Haye and the Klitschko brothers, but they should truly are aware of it now.

Before this brawl, Chisora had slapped Vitali Klitschko at the weigh-in for their bout and spit in the face of Wladimir Klitschko during pre-fight events while in the ring.

There is no place in any sport for this type of irrational and dangerous behavior.

Imagine if boxing had a supreme governing body. Even more, imagine if that governing body was headed by Roger Goodell. You think James Harrison gets a ton of fines, it would be nothing compared to what Chisora would have in store for him.

Chisora's crazy behavior didn't begin with the slap of Vitali Klitschko. He has shown violent and irrational behavior in the past.

In November 2010, Chisora was found guilty of beating his girlfriend. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison. That sentence was suspended for two years. He was ordered to pay £1,500 in compensation, £500 costs to the victim and to complete 150 hours community work.

At the sentencing, the judge told Chisora this, per BBC UK:

"

Your behaviour on 28 May was disgraceful and downright humiliating.

You used violence on this young lady and then to heap ignominy on her you turned her over and slapped her on the bottom repeatedly.

You clearly have a problem with violence and that has got to stop or your career will be over.

"

Chisora had other instances of violence in his history, including: assault on a police officer and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Combine that with the fact that he can clearly be heard saying this in the video:

"

I'm going to shoot David Haye.

"

Chisora has a real problem, and it's in his and other fighters' best interest that he be banned from the sport. His history of violence is a tell-tale sign of something bigger and more destructive on the horizon. He and the sports world are lucky things didn't get worse in this incident.

Chisora needs medical help, as it is clear he has lost any semblance of rational and appropriate behavior.

Chisora was detained by German police afterwards, but ultimately released per BBC Breaking News:

At last word, police were still searching for David Haye for questioning. He had left the hotel shortly after the scuffle. He truly seemed to get more than he bargained for with Chisora.

It appeared he was just trying to angle for a fight in the ring by antagonizing Chisora. Haye is looking to revive his career after a lackluster performance against Wladimir Klitschko. What he got was an altercation with a man not fit for interaction with people.

It has already been proven Haye is not in the same class as the Klitsckos, and his attempt to pick a fight with a fighter Vitali had just dominated is pitiful. Though he didn't make as bad of an account for himself as a human being in the scuffle, it was embarrassing to see him chase the Klitschkos' scraps.

If he can't compete on the highest level, at this point, he should just walk away from the sport. Haye has always had a plan to retire from the sport early. He generally wanted to beat the Klitschkos first, but it's obvious that's not happening.

Now, this brawl is just another embarrassing blemish on a ho-hum career.

This was a nasty scene that should result in both fighters going away for good. One to an institution and the other to a different profession.
