2012 NFL Draft: Andrew Luck Scouting Report
I'll make this simple: Andrew Luck is the best player in this years' draft and will be selected with the first pick by the Indianapolis Colts. Some scouts have declared him the best quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning, which makes it somewhat fitting that he will be picked the Indianapolis Colts.
Season Stats: 3,517 yards, 37 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 71.3 completion percentage, two rushing touchdowns
College: Stanford (22 years old)
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 235 lbs
NFL Comparison: Peyton Manning
Awards: 2011 Maxwell Award winner, 2011 Walter Camp Player of the Year, 2010-2011 Heisman Trophy runner-up
Overview: Although he could have chosen to leave college early and enter the 2010 draft, he decided to return for another season at Stanford. He put up roughly the same numbers as he did the previous season, passing for over 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns in his junior year. Despite this solid season, Luck was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy yet again.
The similarities between Luck and Manning are just uncanny. Both returned to college despite being projected as the first overall pick, and both failed to win the Heisman Trophy despite being the best players in college football at the time.
Peyton Manning's situation has been well-documented: He is currently recovering from neck surgery, with his ability to ever play football again still uncertain. Despite all that he has done for the Colts, people tend to forget that the NFL is a business, and the fact is that Manning will be 36 years old when next season starts. Here's a quick tip for Colts owner Jim Irsay: Draft Andrew Luck.
