The Doctor's Elimination Chamber Recap: 238 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 19, 2012

Tonight's Elimination Chamber was a PPV with little to no surprises whatsoever. No titles changed hands and both Chamber matches felt less than satisfying.

CM Punk retained in a match which had a strange ending, considering Chris Jericho was never eliminated. He was supposedly injured outside the ring, but the fact that he was never taken to the back until long after the match had ended was suspicious.

It is also strange that they would have him do a mid-match injury angle, so it is tough to say exactly what happened. If he is hurt then I am curious as to why he wasn't attended to quicker.

Monday Night RAW

The SmackDown chamber match saw Santino have an impressive showing as the final man eliminated to have Daniel Bryan retain his title.

Beth Phoenix retained her title in a longer than average Divas match which came in at just over seven minutes, while Jack Swagger retained over Justin Gabriel in a match that was added for virtually no reason at all.

The night seemed haphazardly scheduled and did not follow much of a set pattern for what we are used to seeing for a PPV. Both Chamber matches happened before the US title and Kane/Cena bouts.

Cena won the ambulance match, which saw him embrace neither hate nor Ryder's woman. Basically, it felt like a show that WWE did not have a lot of faith in to begin with.

For those who are not a regular reader of my recaps, I like to give a different approach to the normal recap by making a long list which contains humor, recap, results, play-by-play, observations, questions, answers and anything else that comes up.

Tonight's show was not only slightly disappointing, but it was fairly boring in terms of segments so there was not much to joke about. I ended up doing a lot more play by play since it was a PPV with two 6-man gimmick matches so bear with me if it was long winded tonight.

I have fun writing these things so I hope you enjoy reading the 238 things we learned, loved and hated from Elimination Chamber.

1. The Raw elimination chamber opens the show
2. Jericho is out first
3. Miz comes out next to some decent heat
4. Dolph Ziggler is third
5. He is followed by Truth, who gets a nice pop
6. So I guess its Punk and Kofi who are going to start things off
7. Being first in the match does not bode well for Punk
8. However, having him win would make him look very strong having lasted through all five other men
9. Punk gets a huge pop as he comes down
10. I am shocked that this match is starting the night, I sort of looked at this as the main event
11. Punk and Kofi lock up and get going
12. Holy crap, Kofi just hurdled the top rope with ease
13. He wouldn't have touched the rope at all had he not brushed it on the way down, truly impressive feat
14. He gets back in the ring. Punk and Kofi try a combination of different pins until Kofi hits a flying elbow
15. Damn, Punk just took a hard hit to his knee on the metal grate that did not look planned
16. Punk hits a suplex on Kofi outside that had to hurt no matter how careful they were
17. The third man is Dolph Ziggler and he goes right to work on Punk
18. Ziggler is wearing some pink tights that remind me of Paul Roma from back in the day
19. Nice, Ziggler climbs the cage and does some crunches to show off and then he drops onto Punk with a leg drop
20. Holy S$%&, Punk and Kofi just did one of the coolest things I have ever seen, they both spring-boarded into the ring and collided when Ziggler moved
21. Awesome, credit to both men for making that a highlight reel moment for sure
22. FU Twitter facts!
23. Damn, Punk has a major welt forming from that hard hit he took earlier
24. The fourth man is in and it's R-Truth
25. Oh my god, Ziggler got hip tossed over the top rope and the way his leg hit the steel ground looked really painful
26. Ziggler just kicked out of a pin so I guess he isn't hurt that bad but damn it looked painful
27. Jericho looks like he wants to break out of the chamber to get at Punk
28. Punk hits the Macho Man elbow to pin Truth
29. Ziggler tries to pin Punk, who reverses but gets hit with Trouble in Paradise by Kofi
30. Kofi throws out Ziggler and tries to pin Punk but he only gets a two count
31. Great action thus far in this match
32. Kofi just did an awesome spot where he leapfrogged to the wall of the chamber and then hit a spinning DDT on Ziggler on the outside of the ring
33. All three men are down now and Miz looks like he wants in the ring really bad
34. Miz gets his wish and Jericho will be the last man out
35. He goes right to work on Punk and Kofi by slamming both men into the chamber
36. Ziggler has been hitting the ground outside the chamber a lot this match
37. Not too much time before Jericho comes in and only one guy has been eliminated
38. Punk puts the anaconda vice on Miz
39. Jericho is in before Miz can tap and Punk breaks the hold to have a stand off with Jericho
40. They start pummelling each other
41. Jericho gets the upper hand and starts punishing Punk
42. Jericho hits the lionsault for a 2-count
43. Ziggler rolls up Jericho and almost eliminates him but eats a code breaker right after and ends up getting pinned
44. Down to Punk, Kofi, Jericho and Miz
45. Haha, Punk starts ramming Jericho into the chamber and Jericho just goes back in his pod and closes the door
46. Jericho ends up slamming the door into Punk several times in a nice looking spot
47. Kofi tries his rolling pin move on Jericho but is too hurt to keep the cover since it was on a steel grate
48. Honestly, what an idiot, like it wasn't going to hurt him just as bad?
49. Miz comes over and starts pounding on Kofi
50. Nice, Kofi is climbing to the top of the pod and he launches himself onto Punk and Miz
51. Jericho puts the Walls on Kofi and Kofi taps, but Jericho just keeps holding the submission
52. He drags Kofi to the door and throws him out so Kofi hits the concrete
53. He turns and Punk kicks him so hard he reels through the door and knocks down a camera man
54. Jericho isn't moving and the match has pretty much stopped
55. Punk is looking on from the chamber and the ref is just standing next to him
56. They close the Chamber door and Miz attacks Punk
57. It's tough to say if this is fake right now because they replayed it so many times, they usually don't do that if it is real
58. I am betting he will jump up and run in to try and win at the end, they would have had a stretcher by now if this was a legit injury
59. Damn, Punk kicks out of a skull crushing finale
60. He is being booked very strong tonight
61. Punk ends up hitting the GTS on Miz and pinning him
62. Punk's music hits and the match seems to be over
63. I wonder if Jericho really is hurt
64. What the hell is going on, Punk walks past a still downed Jericho
65. If this is a legit injury then where the hell is the stretcher, if this is storyline then I am curious to know where it is heading
66. If they don't give an "update" on Jericho later then it has to be storyline
67. Excellent, we get a training montage for Santino like Rocky
68. We get a cool video of Cena visiting FCW and talking to all the rookies
69. Hey, its Consequences Creed! I want to see that guy soon.
70. OK, the Divas title match is up next, time to see who had the closest prediction for the time to the second
71. Beth tries to get Tamina to just leave the ring but Tamina takes it to her
72. Tamina gets knocked off the ropes and takes a hard tumble to the outside
73. Its not often I get to say this, Beth is the prettiest Diva in the match, and I do think she is good looking, but against most other Divas it's hard for her to stand out as the best looking
74. Beth applies a nice dragon sleeper on Tamina
75. Sweet, a superplex in a Divas match, that's as rare as the elusive high-quality Divas match
76. Tamina hits a nice superkick and climbs to the top for a third time
77. She hits the superfly for a 1-2, Beth kicks out
78. I think I heard a "lets go Beth" chant break out
79. Beth ends up hitting the glam slam for the pin
80. My stopwatch reads 7:18 for the Divas match, I will announce on Monday's recap if anyone had a close enough prediction
81. Make your predictions for the length of the next Divas match in the comments section below
82. This was a long Divas match, but still felt short for a PPV match
83. Ha, another Santino clip, they are really milking that he is in this match
84. He is punching some ham and it hits him in the face when it comes back towards him
85. Jericho is shown backstage being evaluated by doctors
86. John Laurinaitis and David "Argyle Assassin" Otunga come out to the ring
87. Booker makes fun of Otunga's consistent coffee drinking
88. I am glad JL gave us his full title again, I wasn't sure what it was
89. He is stuttering more than usual
90. He is saying Teddy Long should be removed from SmackDown
91. Alberto Del Rio's music hits and he speeds out to the ring in a sweet car
92. Del Rio comes out without Rodriguez, I guess he didn't want his spotlight stolen by the guy who stole the Royal Rumble
93. He actually comes out to say he agrees with Johnny Ace
94. Mark Henry comes out to pile on the Ace Train
95. What? He actually says Long assaulted him, that's rich
96. Yes, yes, yes, Christian's music hits and he comes out to a nice pop
97. Please don't be a heel, please don't be a heel, please don't be a heel
98. Laurinaitis hugs Christian
99. He says he would be competing for the title tonight if it weren't for Long
100. Dammit, looks like he is a heel
101. They all group together so Otunga can take a photo of the group
102. A Triple H chant breaks out
103. That seemed pointless
104. We could have had another quick match instead of that segment
105. A WrestleMania video plays to tell us its 42 days away
106. Our third Santino training video plays
107. Good for Santino, I bet he never thought he would get this much PPV time
108. Big Show is interviewed and he gives a whole speech on needing to win
109. Seriously, the second Chamber match is already happening?
110. So that means WWE is putting the Kane/Cena feud above the two title matches on the card?
111. Khali lumbers out to the ring first
112. Rhodes is out next
113. Santino comes out wearing his Rocky sweater and he gets a nice reaction
114. Good thing he isn't one of the first ones in the match
115. Daniel Bryan is out next
116. Wade Barrett is out fifth to be one of the match starters with Big Show
117. Show is out last
118. Thank god Barrett got rid of the puke green trunks
119. The Brit and the Giant go at it back and forth for awhile
120. Barrett gets the upper hand and starts ramming Big Show into the side of the Chamber
121. Is the crowd chanting "Boring?"
122. I kind of agree, this is moving really slow
123. As the lights go down for the next entrant Show stands in front of Daniel's pod hoping it is him
124. Rhodes is the third man in and he moves slow, not wanting to face Show
125. Rhodes and Barrett get pounded for a while before taking out Show with a double team
126. Awesome, Barrett turns on Rhodes
127. He is just throwing him from pillar to post outside the ring
128. The crowd is not into this match at all yet
129. It won't get any better if Khali is the next man in
130. Sweet, it's Santino
131. The Milan Miracle comes out strong and takes it to Barrett
132. He celebrates but turns to see an angry Big Show
133. Show just demolishes him in the corner
134. Rhodes takes advantage and puts Show down with a chop block
135. I wonder if WWE will blame Miz for the crowd not being into the match
136. Do I need to explain that joke? You see, Miz was rumored to be in the dog house for Survi...Oh never mind
137. Barrett and Rhodes nail Show with a double suplex on the Chamber floor
138. Best move of the match so far
139. Is that another "Boring" chant?
140. Haha, they can't pull Show back in the ring so Rhodes turns on Barrett
141. Wait, haven't people been able to pin each other outside the ring in every other Chamber match?
142. Rhodes hits a nice moonsault for a near fall on Barrett
143. He goes for Santino after Barrett kicks out
144. How nuts would it be if Santino won, a total swerve might be nice
145. Khali is the second to last man in the match and he just destroys everyone
146. He ends up turning around into a spear from Show to get pinned
147. Smart move to have him come in, clean house and then get eliminated
148. Should cut down on the odds of another "Boring" chant
149. Show is looking at Bryan, who is the last man left in a pod
150. Bryan is taunting him through the plexiglass
151. Hilarious, Show climbs the ropes and tries to reach through the top of the chain
152. He starts ripping at the chains at the top of the pod to get to Bryan
153. HAHAHAHAHA, Big Show climbs down through the pod and he and Bryan are locked in there together
154. The crowd goes nuts for the first time in the match as Show is just obliterating Bryan
155. The countdown hits and the pod door opens and Bryan tries to run
156. Damn, Big Show just whipped Bryan right back though the pod door and it broke
157. I know it was staged but it looked cool the way Bryan hit the wall
158. Show hits a choke slam on Bryan but Barrett hits him with a kick before he has a chance to pin Bryan
159. Rhodes hits Show with a nice pair of Beautiful Disasters
160. He plants Show with a DDT
161. Barrrett hits an elbow drop on Show and Rhodes covers him for the pin
162. I can't believe Show is the second man eliminated in the match
163. Nice, Santino rolls up Rhodes for another quick elimination
164. In a fit of rage Rhodes hits his finisher on Santino before he leaves the chamber
165. Barrett tries to cover Santino but he is able to kick out
166. Barrett ties Santino in the chain wall and boots him in the face before going to work on Bryan
167. Bryan slips when he tries to do his little flip in the corner and almost falls
168. A rare botch for Bryan
169. Booker is making up words again
170. Barrett powerbombs Bryan into the side of the Chamber in a cool looking move
171. Jesus, Barrett is squeezing Bryan in the door like his head is an orange and he really wants some juice
172. Holy Crap! A great looking spot where Barrett slammed the door into Bryan's head
173. There had to have been a stopper in the way by how it sounded when Barrett slammed the door shut but it still looked really cool
174. WWE is not sticking to a pattern I thought they would take in this match
175. Dear god, Barrett sets up Bryan on the turnbuckle and then slams his head back into the plexiglass of the pod, smashing it in
176. Santino comes in and ends up in a position to superplex Barrett but gets knocked off
177. Barrett misses a flying elbow to Santino and Bryan is able to hit a flying headbutt on Barrett
178. Santino pins Barrett and it is down to Santino and Bryan
179. The crowd just came alive at this matchup
180. Come on Santino!
181. Bryan is punishing him with Kicks but Santino keeps getting up
182. "Please Sir, may I have another?"
183. Damn, Santino came close to winning with a roll up
184. I kind of want Santino to win just to say I got to see it
185. OH MY GOD...COBRA...1...2...Kickout
186. Bryan locks in the Labell lock and Santino is fighting
187. Holy cow, he almost breaks the hold out of sheer force but ends up having to tap
188. It makes sense to have Bryan win, but I think it would have been hilarious to see Santino win after all of those training segments earlier in the night
189. Bryan celebrates as if he just beat the toughest opponent of his career
190. This match started off really poorly but it picked up and I ended up liking it in the end
191. Sheamus' music hits and he is probably coming out to challenge Bryan for 'Mania
192. Sheamus hits the Celtic Cross on Bryan in what is obviously a statement of intent
193. Dammit, more Natalya farting jokes
194. What sonuvabitch thought I wanted this included in the price of the PPV?
195. Some nonsense with Swagger and Gabriel blah blah blah
196. Long calls Vickie ugly, so on and so forth
197. Oh look, another match is made
198. So the two WWE and World title matches were before Swagger vs Gabriel?
199. Who booked this show in this order? They deserve a swift kick in the ass
200. Hey, 200, Not too often I get to that many items, I must be long-winded tonight
201. So I guess this is a title match too? The ref held up the belt so I guess so
202. Ha, my friend who is watching the show with me, who is a big WWE fan, just said "Why is this nerd wrestling?" about Gabriel
203. Oh my god, that was shorter than the Divas match
204. Swagger wins with an ankle lock
205. I guess they had to add another match so it wasn't only four
206. Another video for the Rock? He is the king of the pre-recorded message isn't he?
207. So it looks like the final match of the night is Kane vs Cena
208. Is this like the 27th Cena and or Rock video we have seen tonight? This time added up could have added up to another match on the card
209. Kane comes out first for the match wearing his Rocketeer replica mask over his normal red mask
210. Cena comes out to a nice reaction, some boos but not the reaction I expected after Monday
211. A few minutes in and we get a rare dropkick from Cena
212. Cena gets booed as he hits the 5-knuckle shuffle
213. He tries to hit the AA but Kane breaks free and he starts smothering Cena with his huge paw
214. Someone get a rape whistle!
215. Kane tries to drag Cena's lifeless body out of the ring to the ambulance, but all that dead weight is tough to move
216. Kane gets lazy and uses a wheel chair Ryder must have planted for him
217. Cena starts to fight back halfway down the aisle
218. Not often you see a wheel chair used as a weapon
219. Kane ends up in the wheel chair and he gets rolled into a table
220. Someone is going to be pissed that Kane used their laptop as a weapon
221. Cena hits Kane with one of the monitors from the announce table
222. WWE must be the only customer keeping the company who makes those monitors in business
223. Kane has a nosebleed, but it's hard to see with the red mask
224. Cena is setting up for something with the steps
225. Cena carries Kane up the steps in an impressive show of strength but Kane reverses and choke slams Cena through the announce table
226. The best part, it was the Spanish announce table
227. Older wrestling fans will get why that's funny more than younger fans
228. Kane is getting the gurney to bring Cena to the ambulance
229. Kane almost wins with Cena fully in the back of the ambulance, but Cena kicks the door as he tries to close it and escapes
230. Cena slams Kane in the side door
231. HAHA, Cena tries to open the drivers side door and it was locked, great planning
232. Is he going to AA Kane through the roof of the ambulance?
233. Nope, he AA's him off the side into a blocked off area which obviously has a big pad in it
234. Still, kind of a cool spot
235. Cena gets Kane in the ambulance and closes the doors to win the match
236. So I guess he didn't embrace the hate after all
237. The show ends with Cena in the ring celebrating
238. Time to go watch the Simpsons 500th episode on my DVR, good night everyone

Please feel free to share your thoughts and additions to the list below. Also feel free to share your prediction for the time of the next Divas match.
