Jeremy Lin: Knicks G Will Dazzle in All-Star Weekend
Those who want to see Linsanity come to an end would be best served to pass on the festivities of All-Star Weekend. The phenomenon is only going to grow stronger in Orlando.
The Rising Stars Game is made for guys like Lin. It features a lot of open court, which is where guards show their stuff. If you haven't seen Lin play yet, that's a game you'll want to watch. In addition to being quick, he is also a good ball handler, which will be shown in full force.
Of course, there is one other thing working in Lin's favor in that game; Blake Griffin is his teammate. Those two are going to connect on some monstrous alley-oops. We'll be seeing clips of that game on highlight reels for a long time, but it will not be where Lin's weekend ends.
We might as well hand Iman Shumpert the Slam Dunk Contest trophy right now. The man is an absolute genius.
The event is going to be decided by fan voting, so playing in New York will already work in Shumpert's favor. But not taking any chances, he went and enlisted Jeremy Lin's help. It's hard to imagine anyone losing a popularity contest when Lin's name is attached.
Also, while Shumpert will be the man executing the dunks, Lin will have to put the passes in perfect position. If he can't do that, the dunks won't happen. Fortunately, Lin will execute where he needs do.
The passes will be crisp in the Rising Stars Game and the dunk contest. We already know that Lin is capable of extraordinary things while being guarded. A lot of things happen in All-Star Weekend, but defense is scarce.
When nobody is making any serious effort to stand in his way, Lin will continue to star. He is the NBA's biggest story now and will continue to be through the break. The next great test will be whether he can lead the team through the finishing stretch of the season.
But that is not a test that will happen in Orlando. No, the events Lin is participating in suit his skills perfectly. He is a crisp passer, quick ball handler and good shooter. Those skills will all be on full display.
