Four Down Territory: Links to the Best in AFC East Coverage, 2/17 Edition

Erik FrenzJun 7, 2018

First-round targets. Contract hypotheticals. Wide receivers converting to defensive back—not named Julian Edelman.

It's all inside this morning's Four Down Territory.

Much of the talk here on the blog and around the net has been about the Patriots' need for a wide receiver. B/R Patriots featured columnist Drew Bonifant gives us six receivers he thinks the Patriots should target.

But the main focus of the offseason should be the defense. In his 1,000th article here on B/R, featured columnist Tony Santorsa gives us five defensive prospects the Patriots could and should target in the first round.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills had a long history of missing on first-round picks before hitting on Marcell Dareus last year. No longer: B/R Bills featured columnist Eli Nachmany says there are as many as six potential first-round targets for the Bills.

Rodney McKissic of the Buffalo News reports that defensive tackle Kyle Williams' recovery is right on schedule. If the Bills can get Williams back at full health and put him next to defensive tackle Marcell Dareus in the 4-3, that defense would get a big-time upgrade from within.

Miami Dolphins

Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel has reported that the Dolphins signed former wide receiver Quinton Lawrence as a defensive back. Who does Jeff Ireland think Lawrence is, Julian Edelman?

In our endless coverage of the draft, it's ironic that we often forget there are other rounds besides the first. B/R Dolphins featured columnist Scott Altman gives us prospects for the Dolphins to target with each of their picks.

Finally, Andy Kent of MiamiDolphins.com has notes and quotes from yesterday's press conference with new head coach Joe Philbin, who says he is "delighted" about the coaching staff he has assembled.

New York Jets

B/R Jets featured columnist Danny Paskas gives us some perfect fits for the Jets in the draft and says Arizona State linebacker Vontaze Burfict is like a Bart Scott doppelganger on the field.

Who exactly should they target, though? B/R Bills featured columnist Chris Trapasso's mock draft has the Jets targeting USC defensive end Nick Perry. That would certainly help bolster their pass rush off the edges.

Think Rex Ryan is done with his guarantees? Not quite. Rich Cimini of ESPN New York has the head coach saying he expects another Super Bowl ring...quickly. Didn't he just say, like a week ago, that he was done making guarantees?
