WWE Elimination Chamber 2012: 5 Reasons Cody Won't Pull an Ultimate Warrior

Daniel MasseyMay 31, 2018

Cody Rhodes appears set to be one of, if not the top star of the company.

He is the current Intercontinental Champion and is obsessed with also capturing the World Heavyweight title as well.

He has done many great things for a title that had lost its significance.

He brought it back from the dead as he made it matter again, as well as bringing back the old style belt, signifying more importance.

Though I do believe he will eventually achieve his goal of holding both titles at the same time, but I don’t think it will happen this Sunday and here’s why.

The Stage Isn’t Big Enough

To put it simply, if Cody pulled an Ultimate Warrior at Elimination Chamber 2012, it would not seem right at all.

Elimination Chamber is pretty much a pit stop on the way to WrestleMania.

I do not consider it an important pay-per-view and I believe this would mar Cody’s unbelievable accomplishment, should he manage to outlast the other five competitors.

If it does happen, it needs to happen at WrestleMania, there is no doubt about that.

There Are No Challengers

How many people want the Intercontinental title at the moment?

I’ll tell you, it’s none.

Since Booker T gave up fighting Cody to prove a point (the title would have been a bonus) there is absolutely no one who I could name that would have a chance of beating Cody for the title.

Until The Miz or another high mid-carder comes over from Monday Night Raw, Cody will be left with no challengers.

He Has to Defend His Title Against Worthy Contenders First

As I mentioned in the previous slide, he defended his title against Booker T (who I really willed to win even though I knew deep down he never would) and Ezekiel Jackson.

If he defended it against anyone else then I’ve already forgotten because it was ages ago or because the wrestler clearly wasn’t good enough for the gold.

Cody did feud with Randy Orton and it could have been really great, but unfortunately, it wasn’t for the title.

A decent feud with The Miz or somebody else of Orton’s calibre would really give Cody that boost he is looking for before capturing the World title.

His Development Is Not Complete

4 of 5

Cody is good, but I feel another year with the Intercontinental title will make him ready to compete in a main event on a regular basis.

His development is not complete because of a mixture of my last two points.

His skills are extremely good, but I feel the WWE Universe is still not fully into him as a character.

Until the crowd is firmly behind him as a heel or a face then he will find it hard to capture the World title.

He Isn’t Ready to Be the Main Event at WrestleMania

As his development as a top superstar is not complete yet, it is obvious that he is not capable of carrying WrestleMania and I don’t think enough people would buy the pay-per-view just to see him.

I think another year with the Intercontinental title—WrestleMania XXIX, would be the perfect amount of time for Cody to get the crowd on his side, hone his skills in the ring and pull an Ultimate Warrior.

Not to mention that another year with the title would yield unbelievable prestige as it would be one of the longest reigns with any belt in a long time.
