Manny Pacquiao and Jeremy Lin Meeting Next Week, Will Lin Walk Pac-Man to Ring?
According to an article on Boxingscene written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. the biggest star in boxing Manny Pacquiao will meet the hottest sensation in the NBA right now Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks.
Manny will meet the point guard phenomenon next Wednesday in New York at Madison Square Garden as he will be in the Big Apple kicking off his own promotional tour for his June 9th fight with Timothy Bradley which is taking place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao will also be in New York to make final arrangements with his team of attorneys for his defamation lawsuit against Floyd Mayweather and his father and uncle/trainer.
Unless you have been kidnapped and blindfolded with sound proof ear muffs in the basement of your kidnapper's home with no wifi internet access, then you probably know who Jeremy Lin is. He is the current hottest breakout star in the whole NBA right now. A truly inspiring underdog story, Lin overcame numerous odds to get to where he is today.
Several details of Lin's Cinderella-like story keeps getting reported daily from virtually all of the media outlets. Everything from him sleeping on his brother's couch, to being a Harvard graduate, his strong proud religious faith and of course his ethnicity, being of Taiwanese-American descent growing up in the Bay Area of California.
You can not even turn on the radio, watch the news or surf the internet without seeing or reading something about Jeremy Lin right now.
On Twitter #JeremyLin as well as hash tags trends such as #Linsanity have been flooding time lines for the last several days.
Manny Pacquiao's long time "out-of-the-ring" nemesis Floyd Mayweather even created major media controversy buzz as he weighed in on his opinions of why Lin has become so widely famous due more so to his ethnicity than his actual skills and talent.
"Floyd Mayweather said via his Twitter: "Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he's Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don't get the same praise,
"
Since then many African-American athletes and celebrities such as Academy Award nominated director Spike Lee have responded to Mayweather's tweets via Twitter in defense of Jeremy Lin.
"Lee stated via Twitter: "Floyd Mayweather I Hope You Watched Jeremy Hit The Gamewinning 3 Pointer With .5 Seconds Left. Our Guy Can BALL PLAIN AND SIMPLE.RECOGNIZE."
Lee Tweeted several other responses such as: Floyd Mayweather>Jeremy "STOP ASIAN PROFI"LIN
"
Spike Lee, who is of African American descent and who often directs and produces films surrounding race relations and political social issues, is also a huge New York Knicks fan often seen sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden cheering on the Knicks.
With the planned meeting of Pacquiao and Lin next week you will be having the most famous Asian athlete in the world meeting the now most famous Asian American athlete in the world, and the media will definitely milk this simple brief arrangement to its fullest potential.
Both Pacquiao and Lin have several common characteristics that do not include their obvious Asian ethnic origin background. Both athletes are very religious and are very vocal about their faith. Manny is a catholic who has recently declared he will be a Bible Ambassador for the church and Lin is an evangelical Christian who many have compared to NFL star Tim Tebow.
Also, despite their incredible accomplishments and overcoming all the odds in their sports, both Manny and Jeremy have remained rather humble and down to earth.
So what will be even cooler than next week's meeting between these two humble superstars than all of the pictures, videos, sound bites and nicknames?
The answer is quite clear .Jeremy Lin, in my opinion, should be present on June 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and walk Pacquiao into the ring for his fight with Bradley. That ring entrance alone would shake up the world.
