Randy Moss Shouldn't Embarrass Himself Like Terrell Owens Did with IFL

Randy Moss may be 35 years old and a year removed from the NFL, but that does not mean he should lower himself to the Indoor Football League just to make money. 

Terrell Owens is broke, and chose the IFL after no NFL team would sign him during the 2011 season. Since Moss retired last year, his chances of being picked up by an NFL team are much greater, especially since his agent has proclaimed that he is still in great shape.

By joining the IFL and playing on a 50-yard field, Moss would be tarnishing his great football legacy.

On Monday, Moss announced he would like to play football next season, and a little over 24 hours later, the IFL's Chicago Slaughter made it known they want Moss to play for them, according to ESPN.

While Moss never said exactly where he wants to play football, choosing the IFL over the NFL would be insane. Sure, there's no guarantee an NFL will pick him up, especially with a reputation of not giving it his all. The last time Moss was in the NFL, he bounced from team to team, and for good reason.

While his prior disinterest is still fresh in the minds of many, he appeared genuinely happy in declaring that he wants to play again, so some teams will probably take a chance on him. Moss is a very skilled wide receiver, and there are a number of desperate teams out there. 

Moss' agent, Joel Segal, told Pro Football Talk that three teams have inquired about Moss. If this is indeed true, Moss should quickly come out and deny the Chicago Slaughter. However, Segal could be bluffing in hopes of sparking interest from other teams, in which case he's just doing his job. 

Even if no team does want him, trying to make a comeback in football through the IFL is pathetic, and Moss should be ashamed of himself if he does it. Randy has already been retired for a year, and even though he is itching to get back to the game he loves, only an NFL return would be worth it. 

Owens will play for the Allen Wranglers, which isn't the way he envisioned his final years of playing football. After dominating the NFL for so many years, Owens has become an embarrassment. Moss does not need to suffer the same fate, but if he plays in the IFL he'll be doing just that. 

Not to discredit the IFL in any way, but these are NFL stars, and while they're past their prime, trying to keep playing football at such a low level is downright sad.

Of course, Moss hasn't said anything about this, and if he's smart he'll politely turn them down. The former first-round pick needs to test the waters back in the NFL, because that's were the true glory is.
