UFC on Fuel: Memorable Moments from the Post-Fight Press Conference

The UFC’s debut show on Fuel TV is in the books, and fans were treated to a potential fight of the year candidate in the main event.

Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger went toe-to-toe for three solid rounds, delivering the dogfight that Sanchez had promised, and put on a show for the fans in Omaha.

Ellenberger had the hometown crowd firmly behind him, and he went out and made them proud for the first two rounds, landing big shots and scoring a takedown or two to get a firm lead on the judges' scorecards.

With Sanchez realizing he had to go out and finish in the third, he came out and threw everything he had at “The Juggernaut,” eventually took Ellenberger’s back and landed some brutal ground-and-pound for the latter half of the round.

In the end, the hometown favorite did just enough to earn the decision win, and Ellenberger took another huge step towards his goal of becoming a UFC champion.

Dana White Admits the Main Event Should Have Been a Five-Round Fight

After three rounds of nonstop action from Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez, most fans were left wanting more.

This included UFC President Dana White, who admitted that he “blew it” by not making the fight a five-round affair.

White admitted he was “pissed at myself” and vowed to make sure that future main events got the treatment that fans deserve.

With Sanchez coming on strong in the final round, many fans felt that the momentum swing had turned in “The Dream’s” favor, and Sanchez himself thought that with another two rounds the fight would have been different.

Diego Sanchez Is Considering a Drop Back Down to Lightweight

Diego Sanchez earned his only title opportunity in the UFC back in 2009 in the lightweight division, but after failing to wrestle the belt away from BJ Penn, he moved back up to his usual weight of 170 lbs.

Now after suffering a loss to Jake Ellenberger, Sanchez admitted a move back to 155 may be in his future.

"It’s hard for me to be able to stay at 170, I have to lift weights a lot to stay at 170. I’m stuck in between both the weight classes. I wish it was 155, 165 and 175 quite honestly.”

Sanchez is one of those fighters who can’t seem to find a home in the UFC, but hopefully a move back to 155 is in his future as he has looked very good at that weight in the past.

Dana White, Jake Ellenberger Would Both Wait for GSP If They Were Condit

With many fans now calling for a rematch between Jake Ellenberger and current UFC interim champ Carlos Condit, two of the most important people involved can understand why Condit would be skeptical about taking that fight.

White said, quite simply, “If I was Carlos Condit, I would wait for GSP.”

Ellenberger matched those statements, saying, “If were him I’d wait for GSP, that’s my honest opinion.”

While many fighters have made headlines calling for title fights, even in scenarios that seem impossible, it seems like Ellenberger is taking a level-headed approach to the situation.

Ellenberger Found the Hometown Crowd Electric, Calls Sanchez a Warrior

After a week where he received the key to the city and was highly praised by his hometown fans, Ellenberger stated he was comfortable fighting at home numerous times before the fight, but he admitted the support was a bit overwhelming once he actually stepped into the cage.

“It was electric out there, I tried to stay focused, it was really hard and it was a little overwhelming.”

On his opponent, Ellenberger had nothing but kind words to say about “The Dream.”

"There’s never a time where you can feel comfortable, Diego’s a guy who’s always in there, he’s always dangerous, there’s never a time where you can relax. He had me in a bad position in the third round and he’s a warrior.”
