Jeremy Lin: Carmelo Anthony Has a Right to Laugh off Concerns

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

There's been a lot of talk about whether Carmelo Anthony can play alongside Jeremy Lin when he returns to the floor.

Anthony talked with Mike Francesa of CBS New York on Wednesday, touching on Lin's emergence, the concerns about how he'll play with Lin and his eagerness to return to small forward and stop playing point-forward for New York Knicks.

When asked about New York's concerns about how the team will gel, Anthony laughed, making it known that he found such concerns bogus and overblown.

He also talked about being "overly excited" to get back with Lin and the Knicks, saying he's "just excited to be a part of that."

Anthony was candid about people calling him a selfish player, admitting that it bothered him, but he also said that he's not going to let it get to him.

I have to agree with a lot of what Anthony said. I know there have been concerns about him potentially wanting a great deal of shots when he returns to the floor, but the fact of the matter is, he's not going to do anything to jeopardize the Knicks' chances of winning.

He came to New York for the chance to win a championship and he's been extremely supportive of Lin during his time on the bench.

More importantly, Anthony appears excited about moving back to his natural position. The way Lin has been playing, Anthony really only has to play within Mike D'Antoni's system and he's bound to get his shots.

In New York City, it's only natural for things to get overblown. The slightest concern can get blown up to gigantic proportions.

But it is being overblown. I find it hard to believe that Anthony won't be enjoying himself if the Knicks are winning. He's seen what Lin has brought to this team and, as a star basketball player, I'm guessing he understands that Lin is going to find him at the right times.

Anthony is not getting enough credit in my mind. Above all, he wants to win. I think playing with Lin will actually make him a better basketball player in the grand scheme of things.

That's a scary thing for the rest of the NBA.
