Jeremy Lin Puns and UFC Champ Chokes Comedian: BR5 2/15

BR5Jun 7, 2018

Welcome to BR5—your source for sports and pop culture news.

Today’s episode of BR5 gets you up to date on everything from Super LINtendo to UFC Champ chokes a comedian.

The Jeremy Lin-ebago rolls on. Another Lin, another awesome performance by the NBA’s newest star. Lin-tensity lit up the Raptors with 27 points, 11 assists and a game-LINning three-pointer with half a second left. Not too bad for a guy who got cut from two NBA teams before finding a job with the Knicks. At this rate, they may never lose again. Carmelo Anthony has said having LINcredible is like a dream come true and that it takes the pressure off him, allowing him to do what he does best.

More news in from the Jeremy Lin Desk...you know you’ve made it when the haters come out.
Floyd Mayweather says Jeremy Lin is only making headlines because he’s Asian. The mouthy boxer Tweeted that black players do what Lin does every night and don’t get the same praise.

There are at least two things wrong with that statement...very few people put up an average of 27 points and eight assists, regardless of color, and when they do, they usually make SportsCenter. In fact, only two players in the NBA have put up better numbers in the past 10 days.

This isn’t the fist time Mayweather has made racially insensitive and inaccurate comments over social media. He posted a video two years ago making fun of Manny Pacquiao, telling him to go make some sushi. Pacquiao is from the Philippines and sushi is from Japan.

A-I reportedly has a big I-O-U that he can’t afford to pay...which is why Iverson’s attempt to return to the NBA could be for more than just the love of the game. Basketball-reference.com says the Answer made over $154 million during his pro career. But now, he reportedly can’t come up with the 860,000 bucks that he owes his jeweler, and a judge says his bank accounts and his earnings will be garnished.

Don’t ask UFC Champ Jon Jones to choke you out...unless you really want him to choke you out. Jones was on the Opie and Anthony Radio show talking all things UFC when comedian Bob Kelly politely asked the champ to show him how it feels to get strangled and knocked out.
Now if you watch here, Kelly is tapping out, but Jones hasn’t fully gotten his grip yet.

Now watch as Kelly fades away to never-never land.

Jones makes it look effortless, and Kelly doesn’t look like he’s putting in too much effort either. Maybe after Jones retires he can set up a booth and choke out comedians and other morons who ask for it.

You can always count on kids to be direct, even when questioning Tim Tebow. These youngsters cut to the chase and asked the QB what everyone wants to know: Are you sleeping with Katy Perry or not? Leave it to the Challengers Boys and Girls club of South LA to ask the important questions that the adults wouldn’t touch. While they phrased their questions semi-innocently, all the kids cared about was the Perry-Tebow rumors.

Not surprisingly, Tebow danced around the answers like an oncoming pass rush, saying "no, we don't have a thing, but she's a good artist." Followed by a nervous virginal smile.
