Jeremy Lin: Why Worry About Carmelo Anthony's Return?

Ernest ShepardJun 6, 2018

Jeremy Lin has unofficially become the face of the New York Knicks. What seems to be the problem?

Absolutely nothing, not even with the eventual return of Carmelo Anthony.

Although the Knicks have been on the hunt for some star power at the point guard spot, the team needs to realize that they have one right now in Lin. It doesn't matter that he doesn't have multiple All-Star appearances or a huge contract, he is exactly what the team needs moving forward.

Amar’e Stoudemire has returned and coming soon to the Madison Square Garden is Melo which has so many fans in a pause and panic. The million-dollar question is why is there the fear of Anthony not fitting in with the “Linsational” point guard?

If you consider the thought that Anthony is a near-flawless pick-and-roll player on the wing, then the worries should become less and less. He has never played with a pass-first point guard of Lin's caliber, so if anything, Melo's numbers should improve.

Anthony and Lin are a match made in heaven and the pairing will work as long as Anthony gets the ball with less than 10 seconds on the shot clock. This will give him three options: find a cutter going to the basket, find a jump shooter from 15 feet and out or drive to the basket.

Making a quick decision will allow for a less stagnated Knicks offense we have seen prior to Lin's emergence.

This would actually turn Anthony into a second facilitator who would have more faith in his teammates making shots. On alternate possessions, the Knicks can switch from Anthony to Stoudemire in order to create more scoring opportunities for them. The player who would have to sacrifice his game is Lin.

He will not have to take 20 shots a game and that will help the Knicks in terms of hitting the proverbial wall. By pacing himself, Lin should be ready come playoff time and that will make him and the Knicks dangerous.

Do not think for one moment that Carmelo Anthony is not aware of this. He is dying to come back and with a shiny new point guard on board, I believe that he will be on the same page with the team.
