NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Should Trade Metta World Peace Before He Has Meltdown

Timothy RappJun 6, 2018

Metta World Peace may declare war on Los Angeles Lakers head coach Mike Brown soon over displeasure with his playing time and role in the offense.

In another words, it's time to trade World Peace.

Let's parse through this slowly boiling situation, as told by Joe McDonnell of FoxSportsWest.com:

"

World Peace is "walking around all crazy-like. We're just waiting for him to go off," one Lakers player recently told FOXSportsWest.com, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Added another teammate, also requesting anonymity: "He's always talking about how he should be playing no matter how bad he's shooting, but he can't figure out that when he takes bad shots and misses eight in a row it puts us in a hole."

"

World Peace is averaging career lows in minutes per game (22.4), points per game (4.7) and shooting percentage (32.7), so he's not exactly helping his cause for an expanded role on the team. And comments like the ones Artest made on Friday won't endear him to his coach.

"

"I let him coach and I play," World Peace told the website Friday before the Lakers' game with the New York Knicks. "I'm just trying to win, and . . . coach is a stats guy. His background is video coordinator or whatever. So he's all stats. But Ron Artest is all feel."

"

According to McDonnell's report, a source has said that Brown would be willing to move World Peace via a trade. And it might be a popular move in the locker room.

"

"There are a lot of guys in here who'd just like to see him gone," one player told FOXSportsWest.com on the condition of anonymity. "I think we'd definitely be a better team if everyone didn't have to walk on eggshells when he's around."

"

This season has felt shaky from the start. Kobe Bryant wasn't consulted on the Brown hiring. The team's trade for superstar Chris Paul was blocked by the NBA. Lamar Odom was so offended he was included in that proposed Paul deal that the team ultimately traded him to the Dallas Mavericks. Pau Gasol's name has consistently been floated around in trade talks.

It's only logical that World Peace would be the next to go in L.A. He hasn't exactly proven to be the most stable or reliable presence in the past, after all.

Move on, L.A., before Metta World Peace becomes more like Metta World War.
