Manchester United: Why the Red Devils Will Catch Manchester City at the Top
Manchester United has a rich history. A rich history of comebacks. Try the Munich air disaster, for one. They're where they are today because of that "fighting spirit" that surrounds the club. For me, it is this universal value that makes Manchester United an international club, and not just English.
Year after year, they never fail to impress. This is why they've created a brand image of their own and that sets them apart from the other big clubs in Europe.
Off late, Manchester City has risen from obscurity (and from relegation danger) to the very top of the Premier League, thanks to the vast resources of their benefactor, Sheikh Mansour Nahyan.
The question remains: Will Manchester United finalize their comeback? Or will the "almighty dollar" wield its "perverse" wand yet again?
So here are some reasons why it's possible for the Red Devils to catch up with Manchester City at the top...
Only a Two-Point Deficit
1 of 5As of this week, Manchester City leads Manchester United by just two points. Considering the quality of both sides and the volatility of the EPL, this lead is anything but comfortable. In comparison, Real Madrid's lead over Barca now assures them of the La Liga crown this year...
The Competition
2 of 5Arsenal had to bring back Thierry Henry since Robin Van Persie was doing all the scoring. Chelsea will take a good two years more to assemble a good team. Manchester City are struggling without Carlos Tevez but barely staying on top. Let's say that the competition is but a shade of their former selves this year.
Advantage Manchester United.
Slow Starters...but Strong Finishers!
3 of 5A growing trend indicates that Man U really picks up the pace during Christmas time and finish strongly. It's no surprise that they're doing it again this year...
Key Players Making Comebacks from Injuries
4 of 5Sir Alex Ferguson recently mentioned that this is the worst year when it comes to injuries. Only recently, Phil Jones, Nani, Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand were all sidelined due to injury.
So, you can expect much more from the side when they're back...
The Drama Surrounding the Manchester City Squad
5 of 5Carlos Tevez is back. Most Manchester City fans are divided when it comes to their opinion of his involvement with the team. It's evident that the squad needs a player like him to score goals if they have to increase their current lead over Manchester United.
Yaya Toure's absence and Mario Balotelli's disobedience has only complicated matters for Manchester City.
Controversy and intrigue only shifts the focus away from the game. Not a good idea. If this goes on, you can be sure that Manchester United will take advantage of the ongoing drama...
So, if you think there are other reasons why Manchester United will catch up Manchester City in the Premier League, please feel free to share!
