2012 NFL Draft: Why Kellen Moore Will Be Surprise Success

Kevin Van PeltJun 7, 2018

This year's NFL draft seems to be focused around two quarterbacks, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. Both players are potential first-overall picks and headline the draft.

As for Kellen Moore, he remains a late-round pick on mock drafts and has questions about his abilities in the NFL.

One thing that gets mentioned a lot when it comes to Moore, is his size. He is 5'11" tall and weighs 191 lbs. NFL teams should know by now not to judge off of that. Drew Brees is only 6-feet tall and is very successful at what he does.

Also like Brees, Moore has been criticized for his arm strength. Moore can throw the ball 60 yards down the field. Since quarterbacks rarely have to throw a ball farther than that, his arm shouldn't be a problem.

Moore will have success in his career because he has excellent accuracy. During his college career, he was had a completion percentage of 70 percent. His competition he faced was not the greatest, however, he did face ranked teams during his time at Boise St. and he did quite well. Moore proved he can play against the best in college, so why can't he play in the NFL?

Moore is the only 50-game winner in NCAA history. His record was 50-3 which is a staggering number. In the NFL, quarterbacks, unlike any other position, are judge on their win-loss record. Quarterbacks such as Tim Tebow, who have horrible completion percentages, are given passes because they win. Moore is a winner and should be given a shot.

NFL scouts at times play things safe. If they see a player with size, speed and strength who was a decent player in college, they would take a player like that over Moore. Those players are not any risks for scouts. If those players fail, it's the player's fault. They were a bust. If a scout fails on Moore, it's his fault for telling the team to pick him.

NFL teams and scouts need to learn that it's not all just about size and speed. If a player has the talent on the field to get the job done, then they should get that player. Moore did not get enough credit in college because of where he played. However, what he has done cannot be ignored anymore.

He will be a successful pro quarterback if given the chance. There are plenty of teams in the league right now who do not have a franchise quarterback on their team. They need to take a shot at Moore and see what he is capable of doing.
