Laureus Awards: Novak Djokovic Wins World Sportsman of the Year
Novak Djokovic has become such a huge name in tennis that even people who are not familiar with the sport have taken notice.
He is not a Federer, nor a Borg, a McEnroe or any other player. He is, simply, himself.
It's going to be a battlefield when the Roland Garros begins. Novak is already setting his sights on it, saying at the Laureus Awards:
""I have to stay optimistic, believe in what I can do, believe in my abilities and believe that I can win on all surfaces," Djokovic said. "I have proven on numerous occasions that I can really be one of the candidates to win every Grand Slam on every surface. I need to keep that up. Roland Garros is the one to win this year."
"
For those who are interested in who else was awarded, here is the list:
Sportswoman of the Year: Vivian Cheruiyot.
Team of the Year: FC Barcelona.
Breakthrough of the Year: Rory McIlroy (I'm sure that ended with a big party with his "Sunshine" girlfriend).
Comeback of the Year: Darren Clarke.
Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability: Oscar Pistorius.
Action Sportsperson of the Year: Kelly Slater.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Sir Bobby Charlton.
Sports for Good Award: Raí Souza Vieira de Oliveira.
