Randy Moss' Decision to Return to NFL Doesn't Change Fact He's Unhireable

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Randy Moss' time as an NFL player is over whether he wants it to be or not.

He has announced that he wants to make a comeback, but no team this side of Canada is going to sign a one-dimensional receiver whose advanced age has stripped him of his one dimension.

Moss told the world he was hanging his cleats up for good prior to the 2011 season. With this announcement, he turned that retirement into a 16-week break from the NFL.

That means that wasn't even his longest break from the NFL. He had a two year hiatus while "playing" for the Oakland Raiders.

Moss made the announcement of his return on a video found on Ustream.com.

"

I just wanna go to a team and play some football...Faith, family, and football, that's my M.O., bro. Your boy be back for the upcoming season.

"

He also added this on his Twitter account.

Unfortunately for Randy, his desire to return is going to be a one-way train.

Why Moss Won't Find a Home

No team is going to sign Moss because he is no longer capable of being a threat on the football field and his diva ways are not worth the headache if he isn't going to produce.

Moss has made his living in the NFL by doing one thing: catching the deep ball. That skill was already fading fast. His last season in the NFL he caught just 28 passes for 398 yards. His longest reception was for 38 yards.

Check out his few and far between highlights from 2010, and it becomes clear right away that he is no longer capable of motoring past anyone.

At 35 years old and with a year away from the game, his speed and explosiveness have not magically returned.

People will try and make the argument that he will come back focused and dedicated and this will lead to a rejuvenated Randy Moss. "This is a player that is fueled by haters," they will say.

Don't listen to those blind supporters. They are smoking the same performance inhibitor that Moss once admitted to puffing on.

While the "chip on the shoulder" argument rang true earlier in his career, that was when he could still run like a cheetah.

In 2010, Moss had plenty of haters and it fueled him to the worst season of career because he lost his elite speed.

This is a receiver that never learned the nuances of the position. He doesn't have the route running smarts to succeed on guile. He was lazy in preparation, undisciplined in his dedication, and now he doesn't have the skills to continue his career.

He is no longer of value to any team, and that will render this announcement pointless.
