Randy Moss: 5 Teams That Should Consider Picking Up the WR
I'm sure you've already the news of the day—wide receiver Randy Moss wants to make a comeback next year to the NFL. He took the entire year off last season after playing with three teams in 2010, while having arguably the worst season of his career.
Moss turned 35 years old today, but with his height at 6'4" and his credentials, some team will take a chance on him. Although he may have a reputation of ruining teams he's previously been on and being a pre-madonna, the reward far out weighs the risk. Some team could sign him to a one-year contract and get him for rather cheap. If he doesn't work out, he could be released; if he does work out, you have a very valuable weapon on your offense.
Here are five teams that should consider picking up the 35 year old wideout.
Cleveland Browns
1 of 5Moss may not make the playoffs playing for the Browns, but if he really wants to play, it surely beats sitting on his couch. Cleveland could be a great fit because he'd immediately become the main focus on this offense. I mean seriously, can you name any offensive weapon the Browns have on their team?
Sure, you could count Peyton Hillis, but he's a free agent this season, and there's no guarantee he'll be back next year.
If new offensive coordinator Brad Childress can apologize for what he said about Moss in Minnesota, this could be a very good fit and help quarterback Colt McCoy mature. It would at least give the Browns a quality player on the offensive side of the ball that they so desperately lack.
Philadelphia Eagles
2 of 5The Eagles are currently going through a few problems with wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Will he stay or will he go remains the question. If he ends up walking, you could see Moss step in and take his place.
Moss is a guy that remains in shape and still can become a down field threat. He'd end up doing Jackson's job and probably be better, considering Moss is much more sure handed than the four year wide receiver is.
If Jackson ends up getting the franchise tag placed on him, this possibility will become extremely unlikely. But for a team that's signed pretty much everyone under the sun, and with the win now mentality, it wouldn't shock me to see him in an Eagles uniform next season.
New Orleans Saints
3 of 5The New Orleans Saints are another team that may lose a key part of their offense in free agency, with Marques Colston possibly walking. That could open the door for a wide receiver like Moss to step in and fill that void. Seriously, could you imagine Brees throwing to Moss down field in that dome?
So, I know you're questioning Moss and his character issues, and you don't want to mess up a good thing the Saints have going right now. That's all understandable. But do you really think Brees will let something like that happen? That guy is a leader off and on the field and has complete control of that locker room with an iron fist. There's very few who can keep Moss in line, and I'd bet Brees is one of them.
Add Moss to this team, and they remain a Super Bowl contender in the NFC.
Chicago Bears
4 of 5Much like the Cleveland Browns, who do the Chicago Bears have at the wide receiver position? Running back Matt Forte was the Bears leading receiver with 52 receptions last season. That's never a good sign for your football team. There really isn't a true receiver on this football team, which makes quarterback Jay Cutler's job that more difficult. The Bears had a passing game that was ranked 26th in the league last year for a reason.
Adding Moss would give Cutler a true option to throw the ball to and would make the job easier for the speedsters Johnny Knox and Devin Hester. It'd also reunite him in the NFC North, where he spent the first eight years of his career in.
New England Patriots
5 of 5You just knew it was coming, and honestly, it would be the perfect ending for his career. Moss somehow finding his way back in New England would just be too good to be true.
Moss and Tom Brady had some of the best chemistry we've seen on the football field in recent memory. He only played four seasons in New England, but racked up over 3,900 receiving yards and 50 touchdowns—including the 2007 season, where he caught 23 touchdowns, which is an NFL record for most in a single season.
In 2010, the Patriots traded Moss to the Vikings for a draft pick in this year's draft, but Brady said that he'd still welcome the wide receiver back to the team.
Although Brady is one of the all-time greats at the quarterback position, a deep threat is still what this team lacks. And it could be the missing piece to returning to the Super Bowl, and actually winning it this time. This of course would be the perfect fit for both sides, question is, will the Patriots want to take a trip down this road again?
