Brandon Jacobs: Giants RB Will Win Back Angry Fans with TNA Wrestling Appearance
Brandon Jacobs has been a lightning rod of controversy for fans of the New York Giants. His attitude and arrogance have rubbed people the wrong way, but all that will change when he makes an appearance on TNA Impact this Thursday night.
According to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports, the Giants running back will serve as a last-minute replacement for teammate Jason Pierre-Paul at the TNA television tapings tonight for the show that will air on Thursday.
"The 6-foot-4, 264-pound Jacobs is expected to have a confrontation with TNA star and 1996 U.S. Olympic gold-medalist wrestler Kurt Angle. Jacobs won’t work an actual match but there may be some degree of physicality that wouldn’t violate his NFL contract.
"
Jacobs will be the second high-profile NFL player to appear on TNA television. In 2007, Adam "Pacman" Jones signed a contract with the company and actually "won" the tag team championships in an unusual angle because he wasn't allowed to do anything in the ring.
Unlike Pacman, Jacobs has a golden opportunity to win back the fans that he has alienated over the years due to his attitude on and off the field.
Working an angle with Kurt Angle will be the perfect showcase for Jacobs. There is no one in the business that works harder to get something to work than Angle. He is one of the most intense, focused and dedicated wrestlers of this generation.
Common sense would say that Jacobs is going to act as a battery ram, knocking Angle out of the ring after he insults the running back about something—possibly talking about how much better it is to win an Olympic gold medal than a Super Bowl.
This angle with TNA will show a different side to Jacobs than we normally get. Instead of hearing him complain about his role in Tom Coughlin's offense, he can have fun and let loose with something. He may never be popular in New York, but he doesn't have to be one of the most despised players on the team anymore.
