NFL Rumors: Randy Moss Planning a Comeback to the NFL?

Zach KruseJun 7, 2018

In a wildly entertaining Ustream chat Monday morning, retired receiver Randy Moss informed his viewers that he will be attempting a comeback to play in the NFL during the 2012 season.

After an hour of answering questions about his hair, Myra Kraft and Jerry Rice, Moss finished up the chat by proclaiming, "Your boy be back for the upcoming season!"

Moss retired from the NFL after the 2010 season due to what he called today "personal issues."

A successful run with the New England Patriots ended when Moss was shipped to Minnesota four games into the 2010 season. The Vikings released him shortly thereafter, which allowed the Tennessee Titans to pick him up for the final eight games. In total, Moss had just 28 catches and five touchdowns with the three teams.

With few takers on the free agent market last offseason, Moss hung up the cleats.

Now, the enigmatic receiver is attempting to get back on an NFL roster. Will there be any takers?

Moss turned 35 years old today, and there wasn't much of a market for his services after the 2010 season. A year older and out of football for almost 20 months, Moss may not find much interest this time around, either.

Just off the top of my head without digging deep into the options, Moss could find some interest from teams like the San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets or Chicago Bears.

The 49ers struck out on Braylon Edwards in 2011, but need another vertical receiving threat. The Jets are likely to lose Plaxico Burress this offseason, and the Bears hired Mike Tice, Moss's former head coach in Minnesota, to be their offensive coordinator.

Still, even those three teams would be long shots. Moss wants to return, but it's far from a guarantee that a team will give him a chance on a roster in 2012.
