NFL Draft 2012: Players That Have Much to Prove at Scouting Combine and Beyond

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

The 2012 NFL Draft is over two months away, but the scouting combine begins in less than 10 days.

This meat market-type event is the first step many of these young men take on the path to becoming a high draft pick after their body of work at school is complete.

Let’s take a look at three players who need to dazzle at the combine and continue to show maturity and other positive traits after.

Janoris Jenkins

This ultra-talented prospect has a troubled past and legal problems that will hang over his head during the combine.

He’s still one of the top cornerbacks on the board in 2012 and his ability on the field screams first-round pick.

If Jenkins can nail his interviews and display the athleticism that made him a top defensive player with the Florida Gators, he will be on the right track to a successful NFL career.

Vontaze Burfict

Vontaze is an insanely skilled linebacker, but he may also be a bit insane.

The Arizona State product is consistently playing past the whistle and has even refused to come off the field when his coach demanded him to.

There was no one like him in college this season and he consistently brought so much to the table with his tackling ability but took so much off it by committing stupid penalties.

If he can prove he has matured and will be coachable at the next level, Burfict should be one of the first linebackers chosen.

Alshon Jeffery

Jeffery has the physical tools to be one of the best WRs coming out of college in a long time.

However, he has been unable to create consistent separation and his only truly elite skill right now is his ability to go up and get the ball with his 6’4”, 235-pound frame.

If he can prove that he has worked on his speed and strength at the combine, he’s easily worth a high first-round pick.

If not, teams should be extremely cautious about taking him until at least Day Two of the draft.
