Chelsea FC: Didier Drogba's Loss in African Cup of Nations Final Is Great

Dan RenfroJun 5, 2018

Chelsea should be ecstatic that Ivory Coast lost in the African Cup of Nations Final.

Didier Drogba is the Ivorian captain, and his side losing will undoubtedly energize him. Also, don't forget that Drogba missed a penalty in regular time that could've helped his country win the tournament.

Believe it or not, that loss will help Chelsea.

Scoring is a need, Drogba can fill that need and he will have a huge chip on his shoulder coming back to England.

I won't talk about the Blues' scoring woes too much. Since defeating Manchester City 2-1 on Dec. 12, Chelsea have only scored 11 goals in 10 Premier League matches. If you ignore the Manchester United draw, Chelsea have eight goals in nine matches.

That's atrocious.

Drogba is the man to cure those woes.

Even though he's had trouble finding his form this year, he is an all-time great goalscorer. Drogba is currently tied for fourth on Chelsea's all-time list, with 150 goals. Needless to say, he's more than capable of finding the net.

So, with the void of scoring, Chelsea should look no further than their Ivorian legend. Drogba has scored some big-time goals for the club, and he still has something left to give.

Sure, he might be gone in the summer, but that doesn't mean Drogba won't keep playing hard. He is one of the most competitive players in the world, and he won't back down from this challenge.

In addition, Drogba is coming off an emotional defeat.

Ivory Coast were hoping to win their first Cup of Nations since 1992. Unfortunately, despite being the tournament favorite, the Ivorians fell short.

The loss will definitely affect Drogba, but it should have a positive result. Drogba will return to England with something to prove.

He hasn't had much success for Chelsea this year, and the Cup of Nations loss will light a fire underneath him. Drogba let his country down, and he will want to make up for it.

Therefore, as sad as it sounds, the Ivory Coast's loss could be the best thing to happen to Chelsea's season.

Drogba is capable of solving Chelsea's goalscoring problem, and this loss could be the catalyst.

Drogba is coming back with a chip on his shoulder, and Chelsea fans couldn't be happier.
