Peyton Manning Speculation: A Sensible Way to Make Star QB a Houston Texan

Paul WilliamsonJun 3, 2018

The Houston Texans are ready to make a Super Bowl run in 2012-13 and adding a player like Peyton Manning to the roster is an immediate upgrade at the most important position on the field.

If there was anything that Houston learned in their disappointing playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round, it was that QB play is undeniably important.

Manning would give the Texans the best offense in the NFL to go with the best defense in the NFL, and an undeniable hunger to win.

Houston would become instant Super Bowl favorites. They would have the best offense in the NFL featuring Manning, Arian Foster and Andre Johnson.

They already have the best defense in the NFL, which stands to only get better when LB Mario Williams comes back next season.

So what do you do with current starting QB Matt Schaub?

Why not use him to try and trade up in the draft?

There is a good chance that a number of teams like the Cleveland Browns or Washington Redskins might trade up to get Robert Griffin III.

This means there will be a team that loses out on the RG3 sweepstakes, which means Matt Schaub seems like a very good "Plan B."

Schaub is a proven franchise QB. He has two seasons with 4,300-plus passing yards and has a very good TD-INT ratio.

He definitely should command that kind of trade value, especially if combined with the Texans' first-round pick this year and maybe some later-round picks.

This is a way Houston could put themselves in position to draft WR Andre Johnson's partner in crime.

Potentially, Houston could get a player like WR Justin Blackmon out of Oklahoma State or Michael Floyd out of Notre Dame.

Neither of those players will be available when the Texans draft at No. 26.

Another problem is the idea that Houston would have to break the bank to bring Peyton Manning to Houston.

However, reports are that Manning would be willing to take an incentive-laden deal with little or no money guaranteed.

Now, it is possible that he will be in such high demand that other teams would offer him guaranteed money.

However, Peyton Manning is not your normal star athlete. I really think that if Houston came knocking with the best chance of Super Bowl glory, how could he say no?

This move would help Houston's future and present chances at winning a Super Bowl.

Manning helps them win now, and the drafting of a player like Justin Blackmon or Michael Floyd gives Houston a WR to help out the aging Andre Johnson in the years to come.

I understand that a lot of things have to go right in order for this to happen, but I honestly think that this is a very real possibility and an opportunity that is too good to pass up.
