Westminster Dog Show 2012: Stacked Field Will Delight Crowds

The Westminster Dog Show is loaded with spectacular pooches this. It is certain to be a hit with fans all over. 

The show is expecting more than 2,000 participants in 185 breeds that hail from all over the globe. 

This marks the second year of a slightly smaller field. Before last year's show the Madison Square Garden underwent a renovation that led to officials trimming the field. 

There may be less dogs, but there won't be a drop in quality. 

TV host David Frei summed up this year's field, and was quoted by the Associated Press and comes to us via Fox Sports:

The Favorites

Hickory

Hickory, a Scottish deerhound, has to be at the top of the list of favorites. Last year, this prized pooch took home the coveted silver bowl, and she is ready to impress the judges once again. 

Her owner, Ceil Dove, talking about the impact of winning last year's silver bowl. Dove:

Oh, it changes your life. You never expect it. There’s only one every year, and suddenly they choose you.

Now, everywhere you go, someone asks, "Is that her?"

As recognition of her triumph, Hickory led the pre-Westminster parade. 

The Terriers

When looking for favorites at this event, it is always wise to look toward the terriers. They have won the event a record 13 times. 

Eira has to be considered the class of this field of terriers. She recently took home the victory in the National Dog Show.

She will likely be battling Sneak’s A Peek to emerge from the terrier group. This beauty last year's terrier group.

The New Breed 

The xoloitzcuintli, or the Mexican hairless, will be making its first appearance in the show.  

It is always exciting to see a new breed enter the mix, and it is just another reason this year's show is going to be a big hit.
