2012 NBA All-Star Game: Will Ferrell Must Have Encore Performance in Orlando

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

NBA All-Star Weekend needs a boost, and Will Ferrell is the perfect man to provide it.

By now, most fans have seen the video of Ferrell doing hilarious player introductions before Wednesday's game between the Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Hornets (if not, it's embedded below). A similar performance before the All-Star Game would be a massive hit.

Kelly Dwyer of Yahoo! Sports reports a Facebook campaign has even begun to push the idea ahead of the game, which is on Feb. 26:

In the days since, a Facebook campaign has popped up, encouraging the NBA to hire Ferrell to announce the starting lineups for the 2012 All-Star Game, which takes place later this month in Orlando.

It's a longshot, to be sure, but Ferrell will be based in the south for the foreseeable future filming a movie, he's an NBA fan, and this would seem to be a win-win for both Ferrell and the NBA, right?

"

How could it not? Ferrell had classic lines about Derrick Rose's love for The Notebook and Marco Belinelli's hatred of Italian food, among many others, during his appearance in New Orleans. With nearly three weeks to prepare, he would crush it in Orlando.

The entire reason for All-Star Weekend is to enjoy some time away from the daily grind and have some fun. Ferrell would definitely add to that fun factor while also helping to drive up ratings for the game as a whole.

After his first performance, everybody will be tuning in to see if he can top himself. He would be working with more high-profile players, which only increases his opportunity to shine. I can't even imagine what he would come up with for LeBron James.

Ferrell was able to make Wednesday's appearance because he was filming a movie in town. His schedule would probably be the only roadblock stopping him from doing it in Orlando for All-Star Weekend. Otherwise, it's too good of an opportunity to pass up.

It hasn't been a banner year for the league with a lockout and vetoed trades making headlines all summer. But getting Ferrell for player intros would make the fans happy. At least for one night.

Get it done, NBA.
