Lakers Rumors: All Signs Point to Guaranteed Lakers' Shakeup

Gabe ZaldivarJun 5, 2018

The Los Angeles Lakers gave mediocrity a shot, and now it's time for them to try something different.

There is no shortage of rumors being bandied about regarding the Lakers. LA's favorite basketball team is the second-best in the city. That fact more than anything should see them pull the trigger on any number of rumors floating around right now.

Kobe Bryant was on 710 ESPN's "Max & Marcellus" show on Wednesday in Los Angeles. He delivered a few exciting tidbits for fans to digest. Among them was the revelation that the Lakers were primed to pull off some sort of deal shortly. Via ESPN:

I'm sure they'll do something. They'll tweak something. I don't know what. But I'm sure they'll do something...

They obviously tried to pull the trigger on a trade that they thought was going to improve our team with CP and it just didn't happen. But, that shows me that they're thinking in the right direction in terms of doing things to improve our ballclub. So that's why I'm not really tripping on it. We have to be patient and we have to make the right moves and I'm sure we will.

From the mouth of the best player on the team comes hope that things will not rest stagnant on meager results. The Lakers are not the kind of franchise that will settle for second best, and that is why Bryant's words carry a great deal of weight.

The number of deals that could be coming range from the meek to the marquee. There is also a report from The Sporting News that reminds us Ramon Sessions is a solution the Lakers are keen on investigating.

They have also taken a look at Johnny Flynn, according to Chris Broussard of ESPN. If trading for guard help weren't enough, they have some talent on the scrap heap of free agency as well.

Gilbert Arenas is going to workout in Los Angeles. According to CBS Sports' Ken Berger, the Lakers are at least semi-interested in taking a look.

I would hope so. The Lakers' point guard issues are vast and hardly get settled by Steve Blake being welcomed back into the fold.

That brings me to the kind of deal that is right up the Lakers' alley. Eric Pincus of Hoopsworld recently rumored that Mitch Kupchak has his eyes on trading Pau Gasol for Rajon Rondo

That kind of flip would be a boon for the purple and gold as youth, vitality and grit would be on its way in. Forget bit players like Sessions and Flynn. This franchise was built by swinging for the fences. Rondo would be precisely what the Lakers need to make a positive step toward another title.

While that trade may be a pipe dream, it goes a long way to signal that something is on the horizon. The Lakers are not comfortable sitting in someone else's rear-view mirror, and that's why a shakeup is coming shortly.
