Super Bowl 2012: Brandon Jacobs Issues Apology to Gisele Bundchen

Brandon Jacobs made headlines early this week when he issued a statement to Gisele Bundchen, wife of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Jacobs was on ESPN when he apologized for his comments. Jacobs had originally chirped that Bundchen should stay cute and shut up. This was in reference to her sounding off at Giants fans a few minutes removed from the end of the Super Bowl.

New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs apologized Wednesday night for telling reporters Tuesday that Gisele Bundchen should "stay cute and shut up."

Jacobs, speaking on The Doug Gottlieb Show, said he should respect Tom Brady's wife.

"Given the fact that it's a colleague of mine's wife, I do apologize for saying that, because I shouldn't have said that," Jacobs said Wednesday. "It's his wife and I should respect that just as much as anyone else."

Jacobs, however, stood by his comments on Bundchen's appearance, again calling her "cute."

"No question, he should take that as a compliment," Jacobs said. "If he finds something wrong with that, then that's his problem.

"

Jacobs apologized and this story will probably blow over soon. Jacobs is one who is known for not mincing words, and that was displayed earlier this year when Jacobs got into a verbal spat with New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan. 

Jacobs could become a free agent but he wants to retire as a Giant, so it will be interesting to see if he will be back next season and at what cost. Jacobs is owed a $500,000 roster bonus in March, and the Giants could decide to release him instead of paying him. It is never easy to repeat as champions in the NFL because of cash demands, so it will be interesting to see what Jerry Reese and the New York Giants decide.
