NBA Trade Rumors: Why Dwight Howard Is Not Going to Warriors

Ryan RudnanskyJun 6, 2018

I thought I'd heard the end of it, but it keeps surfacing.

That's right, there continue to be rumors of Dwight Howard potentially going to the Golden State Warriors.

If the Warriors have any shot at Howard, it is in a narrow, tiny, little, sliver of a window...The far more preferred teams for Howard's camp are the Nets, the Lakers and the Mavericks, with the Knicks, the Clippers and maybe the Bulls and another team or two in there as Howard considerations. The Warriors are nowhere on that list. Not as a secondary option, not anywhere. The Warriors know this.

"

Why are the Warriors even being mentioned in the same sentence as Howard right now? They aren't on his list of destinations and they apparently don't play in a big enough of a market for Howard to be interested.

So why do we continue to hear that he might, just might, end up with the Warriors? I could say Kobe Bryant might join the Miami Heat, but that doesn't mean it has even the slightest chance of happening.

As soon as rumors of Howard going to the Warriors sprung up earlier this month, Howard was quick to end them.

After the Orlando Magic throttled the Warriors, 117-109, on Jan. 12, Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote:

"

Agent Dan Fegan made it clear to Sports Illustrated that Howard has no interest in playing for Golden State.

And, on his way out of town late Thursday night, Howard said "no thanks" to a return to the Bay Area. He said he appreciated the energy of the Oracle Arena crowd, but he didn't see himself playing in a Warriors uniform in a week or even in five years.

"

Not in five years, huh? Well, there goes that idea.

I understand the Warriors desperately need a star defensive player in the post to make a playoff run, but this has just become too much. If the Warriors land Howard, I will personally wear a Superman cape and post it as my profile pic on Bleacher Report.
