Florida vs Kentucky: Wildcats Will Continue to Dominate College Basketball

Ryan RudnanskyJun 6, 2018

After Kentucky's thrashing of Florida on Tuesday, there should be no question who the best team in college basketball is this season.

The Gators had a few things going for them headed into Tuesday's matchup. They had an electric offense, had won seven straight games and had beaten ranked teams Texas A&M and Mississippi State.

No matter. The Wildcats exploded from the get-go and closed out the game in style.

Wildcats sophomore guard Doron Lamb said after the game, via ESPN: "I told somebody we were going to blow them out today. I just felt it coming. I knew it was coming for some reason. I don't know why."

Why? Either Lamb is being humble, or he didn't realize the Wildcats had won 15 straight games and a nation-best 48 in a row at home headed into the game.

Also, headed into the matchup, the Wildcats were scoring 78.2 points per game and allowing 57.7 points per game. They held Kansas, UNC and Louisville to 65 points, 72 points and 62 points, respectively. They've also grabbed 39.8 rebounds per game, 14th in the nation.

What else does Kentucky have to prove? The Wildcats are not only only an electric scoring team, they are a complete team.

The Wildcats have two more games against teams who are currently ranked in the regular season: Mississippi State and Florida again. Something tells me they're going to run the table the rest of the way.

Led by star freshman Anthony Davis, the talent is off the charts. Beyond Davis, they have Lamb, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Terrence Jones, all of whom are shooting at least 47 percent from the field.

Davis is averaging 10.0 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game, while Kidd-Gilchrist and Jones are averaging 1.1 blocks and 1.9 blocks, respectively.

At this point, the only team I see beating Kentucky is Syracuse, a team that can force turnovers in bundles and is underrated on defense, allowing 60.8 points per game while averaging 7.3 blocks per game, third in the nation behind Kentucky and Saint Joseph's.

Beyond them, I find it hard to believe anyone will stop Kentucky, and that includes in March Madness.
