Peyton Manning Rumors: Colts QB Reportedly Still Nowhere Near Full Strength

Richard LangfordFeb 8, 2012

Peyton Manning's neck is doing well, but his golden arm has a long way to go. At least this is the scuttlebutt floating around NFL circles.

Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz was on the Tony Kornheiser Show on 980 ESPN and dropped the following bombshell:

"

I know some of the people that have seen him throw. They say he’s not throwing like an NFL quarterback yet. That doesn’t mean he never will. This thing is going to take down. Structurally, he’s sound. Structurally, he can take a hit.

What Does it Mean

Peyton is not going to be a Colt. This has mostly been a foregone conclusion, but this should seal the deal in public perception. Indianapolis is not going to pay $28 million to a QB that cannot currently throw a ball at an NFL level.

Of course, there is a chance that Mr. Kravitz's sources are incorrect, but that seems highly unlikely. If Peyton was chucking the ball all over the field at the moment, he would be posting video tapes of himself doing it—especially in light of reports saying that he can't.

Kravitz is careful to say that this does not mean he will be unable to get that arm strength back, just that it is going to be a process.

Get ready for the free agency of Peyton Manning.

What Happens Next

Manning is going to generate plenty of interest. Obviously, these teams are going to want to see him throw the ball.

If he can prove that he is making progress in his arm strength, he will essentially be able to pick where he wants to play.

This would be a supremely interesting process, and his decision will have a huge impact on next season. Kravitz even mentions that he thinks Peyton could end up with the New York Jets

That would have the potential to reshape the AFC East, and it would create a Manning battle for the Big Apple.

Whatever happens, we are going to hear plenty about this in the coming months.
