Fabio Capello Resigns as England Manager Four Months from Euro 2012

Frank WagnerJun 7, 2018

In a shocking development, Fabio Capello has quit as manager of England, according to The Football Association.

The decision comes just four months from the 2012 European Championships, a major competition that Capello led England to throughout qualifying.

The Italian manager had been expected to leave England after the conclusion of the competition in July. Instead, England are left without a leader for the major competition.

Capello had recently come out in support of John Terry, the Chelsea defender who was stripped of his captaincy by the FA for alleged racial remarks he made to QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.

Capello had claimed that Terry "should never have been fired"—a comment that landed him in hot water with the FA.

A meeting was scheduled between the manager and the governing association today, with the premise seemingly to patch up the situation.

However, with Capello now out, the future of the England managerial position is uncertain.

Harry Redknapp, who had been tipped to take the role in July, was just cleared of tax charges today, according to The Daily Mail. That being said, he will likely finish the league season with Spurs.

With most managers having seasons to finish, it is unclear who England can and will have as manager come June.
