2012 NFL Draft: Justin Blackmon and More WRs Who Will Become Pro Bowl Regulars

Tim DanielsFeb 8, 2012

The wide receiver position is more important than ever thanks to all of the high-powered passing attacks around the NFL. Having at least two viable threats on the outside is crucial to a quarterback's success, which is why there could be a handful of wideouts selected in the opening round of April's draft.

Here are three WRs who will become perennial Pro Bowlers at the next level.

Justin Blackmon

Blackmon has every conceivable tool that teams are looking for in a wide receiver. He'll be able to step right into an NFL starting lineup and put up big numbers because he'll use his physical dominance to take advantage of smaller cornerbacks.

While he isn't going to blow anybody away with his speed, it's more than enough for a player of his size. To top it all off, he has terrific hands, which will surely land him on several Top-10 lists throughout his career. There's pretty much nothing Blackmon can't do.

He would seem like a perfect fit for the St. Louis Rams if they are unable to trade the pick to a team hoping to snag Robert Griffin III.

Michael Floyd

The best thing about Floyd is that he improved with each passing season at Notre Dame, which shows he's committed to becoming the best player he can be. That's an important distinction for teams looking to use an early pick on a player.

He would be generating more hype if it weren't for some off-field issues. He'll have to convince teams that those were just immature mistakes that won't happen again. Other than that, his combination of size and power point toward him becoming a big-time contributor.

There are several teams in the middle of Round 1 that could use him, but the Chicago Bears stand out as a terrific landing spot to help the team's offense take another step.

Alshon Jeffery

It's actually surprising Jeffery is only considered a fringe first-round prospect when you consider the red-zone threat he will likely become in the NFL. Every quarterback would love to add a 6'4'' receiver to their arsenal for key situations.

A lack of production at South Carolina is the main reason scouts are hesitant about Jeffery, but that has more to do with poor QB play than anything else. He would have put up monster numbers had he been playing in a different offense.

Don't be surprised if a savvy franchise like the New England Patriots take a chance on him late in the round. He'll be a superstar with Tom Brady throwing him the ball instead of Connor Shaw.
