Maria Menounos Wearing Giants Bikini Proves Pats Needed to Lose

Maria Menounos had a rough weekend.

Not only did her beloved New England Patriots lose the Super Bowl, but she lost a bet with her Extra co-host A.J. Calloway and was forced to sport a New York Giants bikini in the middle of Times Square. 

At the risk of sounding insensitive to a grieving fan in her most vulnerable moment, Menounos sealed the Patriots' fate when she made the bet. 

Not only did she put her dignity and some of her journalistic credibility on the line when she agreed to the deal, but she was cocky about it the whole time. 

You don't take the chance of having to stand in the heart of enemy territory wearing nothing but a bikini under any circumstance. It doesn't matter if you are rooting for the 1927 New York Yankees to win the World Series, there is always the chance that the other team can win. 

In a one-game scenario like the Super Bowl, the odds of anything happening increase dramatically. Give her credit for being a good sport about it and paying up on the bet, but she broke the cardinal rule of sports betting—don't go in thinking you know exactly what is going to happen. 

Not even Nostradamus can predict what is going to happen in sports. He knows everything that goes on in the real world, but athletic competition is a crap shoot. 

Menounos should learn from this experience. She has to remember that no team, not even the mighty Patriots with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, are impervious to losing. 

To make matters worse for her, she seemed to underestimate just how good the Giants are. That tells me she clearly did not pay attention to the way they played at the end of the regular season and the first three games of the postseason. 

You have to study the competition before making a bet.

The bikini serves a symbolic reminder to Menounos, and the rest of the world, that you have to know both sides of the story before deciding what you are going to do. 

The Patriots had to lose because of Menounos' ill-fated bet. If she hadn't agreed to it, they would probably be standing here today clutching their fourth Vince Lombardi trophy.
