Bradying Is Latest Failed Attempt to Match Amazing Hype of Tebowing

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Ever since Tebowing took the world by storm a couple months ago, people have been trying to match its amazing success by creating new fads based on other athletes' mannerisms. The newest one, Bradying, is another major failure.

Bradying emerged based on a picture of Tom Brady sitting on the field with his hands interlocked during the Super Bowl. Of course, once the first photo went up everybody wanted to play copycat and it went viral in a matter of hours.

Sadly, it comes nowhere close to Tebowing in terms of staying power. That phenomenon truly took on a life of its own and is still going strong to this day. Bradying will be old news by next week and everybody will move on to the next overhyped Internet fad.

Rarely in situations like this does the original idea ever get topped. Tebowing was fun for awhile, but people start trying way too hard to emulate it and the returns began to diminish rapidly. It's happened before and it will happen again.

There aren't many good things for sports fans to say about the NFL season ending, but the end of these Tebowing ripoffs is one of them. They have moved from creative to lame and it's impossible to avoid them once they take off.

If I had to predict what the next one would be, it will be people taking pictures of themselves lining up to run the 40-yard dash like at the NFL combine. It would be the next logical step in this attempt to invent the next Tebowing.

But the fact of the matter is there will never be another Tebowing. It was a perfect mix of timing and originality that allowed it to succeed. Everything that has followed just doesn't give off the same vibe.

In other words, it's time to move on to something new.
