NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Need To Pull Trigger on Multiple Guard Options
The Lakers are sitting back and biding their time until the ultimate solution crosses their path. They need to settle for a perfectly fine solution instead and they need to do it quickly.
L.A. is mired in a funky season. I wish I could use a far better word, but funky seems to fit perfectly with the up and down roller coaster that has proved to be just as uninteresting for fans to watch as it must be for the Lakers to play.
If you want options, there are a few that would, at the very least, answer issues the Lakers are having with guard play this season.
From the trade variety, there is the case of Johnny Flynn. Chris Broussard of ESPN reports Lakers officials have asked about the availability of Flynn. It seems the only thing the Lakers are content on doing currently, though, is inquiring.
The report states the Knicks have also inquired about Flynn. With the emergence of Jeremy Lin at point, that may not be the case going into the later half of this week.
There is also a report from The Sporting News that houses two of the other famed rumors to be hitting the Lakers front recently.
It seems they are still very much interested in the Cavaliers' Ramon Sessions, but may have cooled in the Gilbert Arenas front.
Arenas is holding a L.A. workout this week and it seems the Lakers are unsure if they will attend. Well, they better.
This is not the time for guards to get lost in the shuffle. The Lakers need scoring and a guard that relieve some of the pressure on the aging legs on Derek Fisher.
This team lacks depth and punch. I am not about to guarantee that any of the names mentioned would deliver a title. Save a tremendous blockbuster deal, no such player is coming in that department.
What this does do is give the Lakers a puncher's chance. If they wait, the perfectly fine players on the table will leave it all together.
Then L.A. will be stuck with what they have now, a brittle collection of mediocrity in the backcourt (Kobe Bryant is of course excluded).
While they twiddle their thumbs, the mileage in Bryant continues to mount and Fisher grows all the more tired. The Lakers need help and they need it now.
