Pacquiao vs. Bradley: Lackluster Opponent Will Make Pac-Man's Next Bout a Dud

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Manny Pacquiao's announcement of his next opponent was greeted with a bunch of yawns. Timothy Bradley is a worthy opponent, but that doesn't mean he is an exciting one.

This is going to lead to smaller pay-per-view numbers than what Pacquiao usually rakes in, and it will find his fight coming in a distant second to the upcoming Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto.

To fully understand why this fight will have a hard time finding hype, we have to take a closer look at Pac-Man's opponent, Timothy Bradley.

The 411 on Bradley

This 28-year-old orthodox fighter is a two-time WBC Light Welterweight Champion and current WBO Light Welterweight Champion.

He is an impressive 28-0 in his professional career.

So he is an undefeated champion. What could be the problem?

Bradley's Lack of Drawing Power

This champion has failed to captivate the public for two main reasons. The first is that he has never fought a marquee opponent.

He has had some tremendous bouts, like his victory over Kendall Holt, but these have not captured the American consciousness.

And the reason Bradley doesn't make people take notice is the fact that he doesn't do anything spectacular.

He doesn't have a big knockout punch or blinding speed. What he is is a technically sound plodder who often leads with his bald head.

Prospects of Fight

This tweet is sure to echo the sentiment of many fans.

Bradley is certainly not going to be a pushover for Pacquiao. It is very unlikely that he will win, but he has a strong chin, and he should make it the distance.

But that is not going to excite fans. Especially considering that fans are still fixated on Pac-Man fighting Mayweather.

These two will be endlessly compared to each other. And with Mayweather fighting a bigger-name opponent in Miguel Cotto before this fight happens, he is going to steal the thunder from this fight.

Most fight fans that will only budget one pay-per-view event for the early summer months will go with the Mayweather fight, and this fight will suffer because of it.
