2012 NFL Draft Combine: Breaking Down the Biggest Names to Watch
With the New York Giants now crowned Super Bowl champions, the nation turns to the NFL draft process for its football fix.
There are approximately two weeks until 2012 Scouting Combine, and the official list of prospects invited has been released.
The Giants celebrate today with their cities and fans, but soon enough, the staff will be out in Indianapolis with the rest of the league.
Why? To get a look at some of the biggest names in this year's draft.
Every player at the combine has something to prove, but there are a few players that require the attention of everyone. The biggest names to watch aren't necessarily the draft's best prospects, but their performance is critical to their draft stock.
Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
The Heisman Trophy winner has plenty of buzz already, but he'll absolutely shine in Indianapolis. RG3 has track-star speed at a position where it is rarely seen. Not only will he dominate on the field, but he's going to excel in the interview process as well.
Depending on how free agency plays out, RG3 is going be a very hot commodity. If he makes himself the hottest prospect in the draft, he'll see a team trade up to either No. 2 or 3 to make him their quarterback.
Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
Just how fast is Justin Blackmon? How high can he jump? We've seen him run away, jump over and beat up on defenders throughout his collegiate career, but many people wonder what that actually looks like in numbers.
We've already found out he'll fully work out at the combine, and he'll be one of the most heavily-scrutinized players on the board. His performance will be the difference between a potential top-three pick and a potential top-10 pick.
Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
The National Championship-winning Crimson Tide cornerback was charged with marijuana shortly after declaring for the draft.
The 6'2", 192-pound corner has an intriguing blend of size, speed, physicality and experience and could be a top-10 draft pick.
The charges against him were recently dropped, though, which helps his case. Now, he'll have the opportunity to showcase his skills and reinstate himself as a possible top-10 pick.
Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
The former Florida cornerback showed that he was the best senior cornerback in the country still at the Senior Bowl. He plays more physical than his size and is an elite cover man.
The thing teams want to see is how fast he truly is, as well as how he explains himself for his actions in Gainesville.
A good combine could land him in the top 15, while an average or mediocre one could drop him to the latter portion of the first round.
