NBA Trade Rumors: Steve Nash Should Pursue Trade to Championship Contender

Timothy RappFeb 8, 2012

Steve Nash deserves a championship. And if he stays with the Phoenix Suns, he isn't going to get one.

Time to demand a trade to a contender, Mr. Nash. According to Ken Berger of CBS, the Suns would try to facilitate the future Hall of Fame player's wishes.

"

Despite the Suns' struggles, Steve Nash has yet to express an interest in being traded, league sources said. But the organization will try to accommodate Nash's wishes if the 37-year-old foundation of the franchise decides he'd like a chance to compete for a championship with a contender. "It's really on him in terms of what he wants to do or not do," a person with knowledge of the situation said.

The Los Angeles Lakers would undeniably have interest, and are probably the best fit for Nash. The New York Knicks will as well, and a reunion with Amar'e Stoudemire could do wonders for both, though the Knicks aren't looking like a championship team these days.

At this point, the elusive championship ring is the only thing missing from Nash's fantastic career. He's a seven-time all-star selection, a two-time MVP, has the sixth-most assists (9471) in NBA history and is one of the most intelligent, interesting and downright cool athletes of his generation, at least in my opinion.

And no one would hold it against Nash at this point in his career if he wanted to pursue a championship. The Suns have slowly crumbled around him, and Phoenix fans should understand his desire to go elsewhere.

There's no need for you to finish a Hall of Fame career with the no-championship asterisk that famously haunts athletes like John Stockton, Karl Malone and Allen Iverson.

Go pursue a championship, Steve Nash. You've earned the right to leave Phoenix for a ring.
