Patriots Players Right to Feel Betrayed by Gisele's Outburst

Jun 7, 2018

All is not well in the land of the New England Patriots. The team was once again defeated by the New York Giants in the Super Bowl on Sunday, and now it sounds like a rift may be developing in the locker room thanks to Tom Brady's beloved wife, Gisele Bundchen.

In case you're not up to speed with the firestorm that is developing, Gisele was caught bashing New England's receivers after the game on Sunday night.

"My husband can not f****ing throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times," she said, according to TMZ.

Gisele didn't name names, but Wes Welker and Deion Branch both had key drops in the fourth quarter. Had they managed to hang on, things may have ended a little differently for Brady and the Patriots.

Today, the word from TMZ's sources is that the general feeling within the Patriots is that Gisele's remarks violated the "code of brotherhood." Brady's teammates feel betrayed by Gisele.

"It's like knocking someone when they are down," said a source.

Now, in Gisele's defense, it's not like she got up in front of a podium and said what she had to say to a room full of reporters. She was apparently being heckled by some Giants' fans on her way out of the stadium, and she turned to a friend and proceeded to bash New England's receivers. It wasn't meant to be on the record.

However, that excuse only takes Gisele so far in this situation. It's understandable that she was frustrated and totally in the moment, but she has to know that there are always going to be microphones and cameras nearby at the Super Bowl. And since she's the supermodel wife of one of the most popular athletes in the world, she should have known that some of those mics and cameras were being pointed in her general direction.

Gisele can be forgiven for blaming Brady's receivers. They did let Brady down, and their mistakes cost the team. Her mistake was opening her mouth when she did, and she made matters much worse by dropping the F-bomb.

If I was a receiver for the Patriots (if only...), I'd be pissed too.

The good news is that this doesn't have to become a Yoko Ono situation, a theory that is being kicked around by fans and football pundits alike at the moment. There's no reason Gisele's comments have to stick around like a bad smell in New England's locker room.

The best thing Gisele can do now is apologize to the team. It would be best if she did it face-to-face, as apologizing via the media would essentially be trying to beat back the elephant in the room, while simultaneously confirming its existence.

If Gisele does nothing, this situation can only get worse. Players could easily come to the conclusion that Brady agrees with his wife, in which case the Patriots would indeed have their very own Yoko Ono.

It suffices to say that's not what they need right now.
