Worst Super Bowl Commercials 2012: Ranking Best at Failing on Super Sunday

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

As a whole, the Super Bowl ads let America down. This is the one time where people look forward to the commercials, and it was a waste of time.

It was a lackluster effort that needed a big infusion of cuddly, funny and unique.

There were some amazing exceptions to the failures, but not enough to carry this year's overall weak offerings.

Here are the three most severe offenders.

GoDaddy

Every GoDaddy.com ad is exactly the same! "Oh look, there's Danica Patrick wearing something sexy. Ooh...she's going to take it off. Darn, it cuts off and tells me to go the website...again!"

This was interesting the first couple of ads, but now they are so familiar it is mind-numbing.

The ads must be working, or they wouldn't keep spending the money to air them during the Super Bowl, but couldn't they change it up just a little bit?

We all know sex sells, but I can't be the only one tired of Danica as a sex symbol, and the tease that is these ads.

Budweiser's Prohibition Ad

This commercial was well shot and full of nostalgia, but that is the problem. It was way too over the top. They have the guy running down the street screaming "It's over! Prohibition is over!"

But in my mind, all I could hear was "Woohoo! We can legally get drunk again."

What a glorious day in American history! The entire city shown in this ad essentially shuts down so that they can all pound Budweiser at what appears to be very early in the day. Ah, alcoholism—those were the days.

Battleship

I may have this commercial on the wrong list. Because the ad is not nearly as awful as the product it is promoting is going to be, and it did not show Liam Neeson yelling "You sunk my Battleship!"

That is an win for the advertisement, right? Still, this is on the list because it is an ad for a movie about a board game! And one that does not appear to be particularly well made.

In this spoiled time of mind-blowing special effects, these ones are nothing to write home about, and that is the only thing carrying this movie. At least judging by the trailer that is one explosion after another cut up by defiant looking stars who are bound to save the day.
