Dallas Cowboys Mock Draft: How Dallas Can Acquire Dream Targets
Which player in the NFL draft is a dream for the Dallas Cowboys? Are we talking defensive backs and offensive linemen? Maybe a quarterback to replace Tony Romo or a linebacker to add depth? Is it Andrew Luck from Stanford or Morris Claiborne from LSU?
Team owner Jerry Jones has a list of players he would like to draft over the ones who will "fall" into his lap?
Before fans get too excited, Dallas has no shot at any of the above mentioned players, as long as drugs and a major arrest aren't involved.
But just to dream a little, here are a few possible scenarios for Dallas to acquire players who would provide immediate impact.
1st Round: Trade Dez Bryant, Felix Jones and 2013 2nd Round Pick to Rams
1 of 5Trading away Bryant and Jones is a bit of a stretch for the second pick in the draft, isn't it? As of right now, the Rams are poised to take Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon to help quarterback Sam Bradford.
But if the team gets Bryant from the Cowboys and a running back, I would think that some of their offensive challenges are taken care, right?
This would give Dallas the chance to take either Morris Claiborne or USC stud offensive tackle Matt Kalil. Two anchor type tackles on the same team is the start of a Super Bowl team in my eyes.
Any thoughts?
1st Round: Trade Dez Bryant, Anthony Spencer, 2013 1st Round Pick to Bucs
2 of 5Quinton Coples, a defensive end from North Carolina, is a 4-3 end with a lot of size. I'm not sure if Coples would be a good fit because the Cowboys play the 3-4, but I'm sure defensive coordinator Rob Ryan can find a spot for him.
If he's able to bring the rush off the edge, then I believe he would be worth the pick and the players. Besides linebacker DeMarcus Ware, what other players has big pass rushing ability? See what the Giants just did to the Pats in the Super Bowl?
Coples could be worth it.
2nd Round: Felix Jones to Panthers for 2nd Round Pick
3 of 5The Panthers may be pick around the eighth or ninth slot in the second round. I have Dallas choosing Vinny Curry, the athletic defensive end from Marshall, in the second round. Not sure if he'll even make it that far down, but if he does Dallas will need help grabbing him.
Those Giants like to load up on defensive pass rushers and he may be on the Super Bowl Champs radar. Trading Jones (see a pattern here?) would give them the position to grab Curry.
2nd Round: Dez Bryant to Cleveland Browns for 2nd Round Pick
4 of 5The Cowboys could use some help in the defensive backfield besides just Mo Claiborne. I like Stephon Gilmore from the Gamecocks in South Carolina and I also believe he would be a good fit in Dallas.
I'm not a huge fan of Dez Bryant and I think that he'll eventually wear out his welcome in Dallas. Get rid of the trouble now for some good, young talent.
2nd Round: Jay Ratliff and 2013 4th Round Pick to Minnesota Vikings
5 of 5Dontari Poe is a true nose tackle. He's 350 pounds and stands at 6'5". Ratliff is a great talent, he's been huge for Dallas and is a great presence for the Cowboys defense. Again, we are talking some pretty far out there scenarios, so I figured Ratliff would be good to go in this spot.
Taking Poe would add a run stuffing presence in the middle and give Ryan the big body he needs for his defense.
