Super Bowl XLVI: Giants Win but Bore Viewers Throughout

Austen E. MarshellFeb 5, 2012

How these mediocre regular-season New York Giants teams win the Super Bowl, I don't know.  It really proves the playoff theory—get in and win.

The Giants were all of 9-7 this year and a couple of plays from not even being in the playoffs, but this is the Super Bowl, and I'm always tuned in to watch.

From the beginning of the game, we were ready.  Beer, homemade nachos, pepperoni pizzas and Dreyer's cookie-dough ice cream.

Now either the delicious junk food had us worn down, or the Super Bowl was a little bit boring.

Even Victor Cruz and his salsa dance didn't get me up like it normally would.  Yeah, I dance in front of the TV with the players.  So what?

Patrick Chung absolutely demolishing Hakeem Nicks was something that made everybody jump, but besides that, the environment was relaxed and full of anticipation.

Anticipation of something that happens great in big games, but never did.  It was an ordinary football game with the title of Super Bowl.

Then, Eli Manning completes a pass to Mario Manningham on a 38-yard reception to spark what was a game-winning drive.

We have a ballgame folks, and a few plays later, Ahmad Bradshaw slowly spin-kneels into the end zone for the Giants' last score and winning touchdown.

But not without one last dose of the Patriots.

Brady and the Patriots' offense took the field for what we thought was going to be a game-winning drive.

Not only did the Patriots' receivers have a case of the drops, but Osi Umenyiora wreaked havoc on his side of the trenches, and Justin Tuck got in for a sack on third down that seemed to assure the Giants win with 36 seconds left.

Brady showed why he is feared in the waning moments of games.  On fourth and 16, he zipped a completed ball to Deion Branch to keep the Patriots' drive alive with a reasonable amount of time on the clock to score.

The Giants' defensive line stayed tough for the games' final seconds.  Rob Gronkowski played hurt and almost caught the Hail Mary pass that was incomplete and denied the Patriots a fourth Super Bowl win.

The Giants left Lucas Oil Stadium as champions, finishing the season with a 21-17 Super Bowl XLVI win.

Madonna had our volumes up, as she was more than sexy. And yes, we noticed she almost fell while climbing those bleachers.  But, the lady rocked it with LMFAO and Cee Lo. She had us locked in, and ironically, when the light spelled "world peace," we were looking for "Metta" spelled out somewhere.

Glad this isn't boxing and we didn't have to pay for it.
