NBA Rumors: Steve Nash Foolish to Continue to Put off Trade from Phoenix Suns

Jeff ChaseMay 31, 2018

The Phoenix Suns are struggling this season yet again, so it shouldn't be to anyone's surprise that the rumors of a potential Steve Nash trade have once again reached the public eye.

Apparently the team's struggles still aren't enough to make the two-time NBA MVP point guard want to move on to greener pastures.

With the team sitting at 9-14, including recent blowout losses to the Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers, now may be the time for Nash to finally bow out and take his talents elsewhere.

According to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, the Suns' front office are not holding back if the player were to wish to do just that.

"

But the organization will try to accommodate Nash's wishes if the 37-year-old foundation of the franchise decides he'd like a chance to compete for a championship with a contender.

"

Nash, who has yet to win an NBA championship, will be turning 38 this coming week, and there is no doubt that his time is running out to do just that.

The problem is that Nash is extremely loyal to the franchise, and honestly all the kudos in the world go out to him for being so. The fanbase definitely appreciates it, but I am sure many of them would also be very happy to see the long-deserving veteran finally get a ring.

With the team willing to actually move him if he wishes, Nash would be foolish to not bite on this opportunity. He has done great things for the Suns franchise over his last eight years, as well as his first two seasons in the league.

Nash is actually set to become a free agent at the end of this season, and if he allows the Suns to trade him, he could potentially be helping the team out by actually letting them get something in return for his services. It doesn't mean he wouldn't re-sign with the team, but teams should be much more willing to part with pieces to acquire a guard like Nash at this point in the year.

Nash is averaging 14.7 points per game this season, along with 9.9 assists. Despite his age, the 16-year veteran is still playing at an extremely high level.

There is no doubt that teams are noticing, and they are likely going to be willing to give the Suns a pretty nice return to get Nash at this point in the season.

As always, it will ultimately come down to what Nash wants to do. If he can live with playing in Phoenix, while potentially passing up a good shot at getting a ring, then that is his choice. Otherwise, he would be wise to stop playing the nice-guy role, and take that step to taking his career elsewhere.
