Top 5 Super Bowl XLVI-WWE Comparisons
Today, over 100 million Americans will be sitting on their couches watching the Super Bowl. The NFL game will be seen worldwide, and it is a huge event each and every time. Whether it is for the commercials or the actual game, the United States gathers for one sporting game a year.
In a lot of ways, this year's matchup compares to a lot of WWE stories. That is what I will show you. The world will be watching football tonight, but there are a few comparisons to WWE. If you are not a football and wrestling fan, I suggest clicking away now.
5. Eli Manning Is Mark Henry
1 of 5Eli Manning has been a very underrated NFL quarterback for years now. There is always "something" for critics to mention with him. Through it all, he has one Super Bowl Championship ring and has delivered more often that not.
That brings me to Mark Henry.
Time and time again, the man delivered. Yet, he never has gotten the praise others have got. It finally ended in 2011, when he captured his first World Heavyweight Title.
Even then, there were still a lot of doubters out there. Just like Eli tonight, we will see if he can silence his critics one more time in 2012.
4. Madonna Is Kid Rock
2 of 5Truth be told, I have no issues with either performer. I am a fan of both and wish them well.
However, it is no secret the reaction to them singing has been negative. Just like Madonna performing the Super Bowl halftime show tonight, Kid Rock received a lot of flack for his Wrestle Mania 25 show.
I look forward to seeing what Madonna can do. Same with Kid Rock in 2009.
Others were "bashing" the choices, but they are seasoned veterans. They know what they are doing, and I trust tonight's show will be just fine.
3. Giants/Patriots II Is Rock/Hogan II
3 of 5The Super Bowl in 2008 was the greatest football game I ever saw. The underdog Giants defeated the 18-0 Patriots in an excellent showdown.
In 2002, The Rock defeated Hulk Hogan in an excellent match. The crowd loved every second of it, and many fans still look back at the bout with a smile on their faces.
However, we all knew there would be a rematch somewhere down the line. We also knew there was no way the original could be topped. We see it all the time with movies trying to make "sequels" better than the first. It rarely happens!
Tonight, we will see if Act II can top Act I. The Giants and Patriots will do battle once again. Will it top their amazing Super Bowl a few years back? We shall see, but I know Rock vs. Hogan at No Way Out 2003 certainly did not top their first match.
2. Roger Goodell Is Vince McMahon
4 of 5Roger Goodell is the man behind the NFL. As commissioner, he answer for all actions. Good or bad, it falls under his watch. Imagine how stressed out he is on the biggest day of the year! I can only imagine the amount of pacing around he is doing today.
Now, compare that to Vince McMahon. Try to be a fly on the wall of his room the day of WrestleMania. You know all the marbles are on the table for one show. One event with the entire world watching...
That is a lot to handle.
1. Tom Brady Is John Cena
5 of 5Tom Brady is the poster boy for the National Football League. Right or wrong, he is one of the top faces in all of sports right now. With multiple titles to his name, he can back up every amount of credit he is given.
On that same note, John Cena is the "man" in WWE. He is the face of the company, and that is not going to change anytime soon. With many championships wins under his belt, he certainly can back up all the hype.
Tonight, Tom Brady will go for yet another ring and try to lead the New England Patriots to victory. Yes, it is a team sport, but he is the leader.
At WrestleMania XXVIII, John Cena will try to defeat The Rock in the biggest wrestling match of this generation. Yes, the WWE will have an entire card that night, but all eyes will be on his main event.
How will Cena respond? We will all see in a little less than two months.
How will Brady respond? We will all see in a little over two hours.
